Macclesfield U10’s lift more silverware in Welsh Mountains!

15th October 2013

Macclesfield U10’s headed across the Welsh border on Sunday to the Mold Mini / Junior Mold Rugby Festival, in the age groups of 7 – 12 inclusive. This was on the back of last week’s plate win at Manchester, and runners up trophy at Stockport.

Macc were in a group of six including local rivals Lymm, and tough physical Welsh sides from Colwyn Bay, Cobra, Nant Conwy and Ruthin. First up there was the opener against Lymm which Macc lost 1-0, with a stuttering start and missed tackles. The boys were half asleep with the car journey still in their legs and heads. After some quiet reflection and some pointers from the coaching staff, Macc then swept aside all challengers with improved rucking and fast ball away from the breakdowns.

The 2nd place in the group earned them a semi-final vs Caldy. This was won with great control. The final was vs hosts Mold, and another convincing performance sealed victory in front a friendly and appreciative home crowd. It was made even more sweet as the Welsh rules are different to the English, which all had to be learnt in an hour on the training paddock last Friday evening!!

The Macc lads were crowned champions and headed back home a very proud squad. The win is dedicated to Olly Stubbs who got injured last week at Manchester and couldn’t play this week. Get well soon Olly! Many thanks go to the parents, the coaching staff and Mold for hosting such a great festival played in a great sporting spirit!
