As we begin to look towards the Christmas break, we’re 12 weeks into the season and the Blues have been racking up quite the injury list.
As early as the second game of the season it was clear that it wouldn’t be plain sailing for Macclesfield this year when Tom Davenport went off with a dislocated shoulder against Sheffield Tigers. But the league leaders have found a way to keep on winning.
Here’s a roundup of the players who are currently sidelined by injury:-
Pack leader Dave Marwick limped off with ankle ligament damage a fortnight ago against Birmingham Solihull. He may be available as early as next week for the game against Luctonians, if not the week after.
Centre Matt O’Regan picked up a knock against Harrogate six weeks ago and has since had surgery to repair a facial fracture. Both Scrum Halves have picked up injuries; Chris Townsend has a double hernia and George Baxter ruptured his AC joint against Dudley Kingswinford. Provided their recoveries go well, all three players should be available for selection early in the New Year.
Full Back Mike Barlow fractured his forearm, also against Harrogate and is expected to be available for selection come the beginning of February.
Finally, Frankie Barker picked up a serious looking injury during the brilliant game away at Stourbridge three weeks ago. He’s damaged the medial ligament in his knee and possibly the anterior cruciate ligament, the number eight is having a scan this weekend and the results will reveal the extent of the damage.
To end on a more positive note, hooker Sam Moss is back and available for selection again following a long spell on the sidelines after damaging the medial ligament in his knee.
