It’s always good to get a hat-trick, especially at Priory Park

24th March 2014

National Two North’s top try scorer bagged himself his second hat-trick this season against Otley on Saturday to help Macclesfield to a bonus point victory against Otley.

Parkinson was not the only player to get a hat-trick on the day as winger Ed Stobart also got himself one. Parkinson expressed his relief to get the bonus point and keep up the pressure on the chasing pack:

How do you feel the game went on Saturday?

Relieved to get the 5 points! We discussed before the game that every game is now a potential banana skin and there is no room for error so each game needs full focus. Otley would always pose a threat with the expansive way they play so it was good to get the 5 points in the bag and move on to next week.

How did it feel to get a hat trick for the Blues?

I scored a hat trick earlier in the season away to Otley in my first game at number 8! It’s always good to get a hat trick especially at Priory Park in front of a big crowd in a crunch game.

Was it a relief to get the bonus point?

It was a relief and to get it so early was brilliant. Unfortunately the way that Darlington Mowden Park and Stourbridge are going wins alone without the bonus point aren’t going to be enough so it was really good to get the full 5 points and move onto next week.

How do you feel about these last four games of the season?

They will be very tough. Being at the top of the league all teams below would love our scalp, couple that with the pressure of having to get 5 points and it gets tougher. We have to take each game at a time and fully focus on the job at hand week by week. Obviously we have eyes on the Darlington game but that game is irrelevant if we don’t put ourselves in a position to be going there to win for the title.

Do you think it will come down to the Darlington game?

I hope so, we have worked hard all season to put ourselves in with a chance of winning the league. However like I said we must concentrate on next week at Caldy. Stourbridge and Darlington are playing each other next week so if we manage to get the 5 points it will put us in a really good position to challenge for the title, even if it does come down to the last game!
