BLUES 22 – 35 RICHMOND

Macclesfield Blues took an early lead through a beautifully worked set piece. Winger Matt King offloaded to fellow winger Josh Fowles to score. 7-0, two minutes in.

Richmond registered with a score on 13mins with a kicked penalty, through full back Kirby.

Ten minutes later Richmond were ahead through Davies, getting their rewards for a period of pressure on the try line.

Richmond scored again ten minutes later, their pacey back line proved too much and a chip in behind was pounced on first by a Richmond body. 7-15.

Macc captain Mike Finnemore then finished a great team try on the stroke of half time to take his team into the break just a point behind Richmond.

Macclesfield took the lead immediately after half time through a penalty kicked by Tom Eaton.

The home side could not maintain their lead for long as the Richmond full back kicked a long range penalty to put the travelling side back in front.

Richmond added to their lead on 55 minutes through sub Joseph Burton, extending the lead to six points.

Richmond made it two tries in quick succession, a two score lead with 20 minutes to play.

15 minutes later, Richmond confirmed the win with another try for Burton making it ; 17:35.

Macc got a late consolation with another spectacular team try through Fowles, 22-35.

Macclesfield will feel they can take a lot from today’s match as a positive, they played some spectacular  rugby at times and really entertained a large home crowd.
