ANOTHER CRACKER AND ANOTHER CLOSE SHAVE.   MACCLESFILD BLUES 29  DARLINGTON MOWDEN PARK 33

Well, we hoped the game would be as entertaining, if not as dramatic, as the game in the Northern Echo Arena at the end of last season, and it certainly lived up to it`s billing with the lead changing hands several times, 9 tries being scored and 4 yellow cards dished out……….only 1 to DMP!  Just after DMP had scored their 4th try of the afternoon, The Blues were down to 12 men for 10 minutes!  The large crowd (and DMP!) expected the floodgates to open, but unbelievably, The Macc lads spent almost the entire 10 minutes camped in the opposition 22, controlling the ball and the game, and putting pressure on the vistors line.  It was real `backs against the wall` effort and showed an unbelievable tenacity and spirit from the 12 guys remaining on the pitch to keep DMP scoreless during this period.

With the Blues back to 15, DMP scored a 5th try and looked out of site, but The Blues had other ideas and threw the kitchen sink at the visitors scoring 2 late tries to earn the 2 bonus points and were piling on the pressure right up to the final whistle looking for the win, and according to the DMP website,   “an uncomfortable end to the game for DMPRFC, who were glad to see the final whistle in the end.”  Great spirit and lots of skill on show…………..lets hope we can turn some of these near misses into wins – the boys deserve it.

There are still 55 points up for grabs this season and the great escape could start on Saurday!

RESULTS AROUND PRIORY PARK

As mentioned, The Blues hosted Darlington Mowden Park and came close,  The Lions got back to winning ways at Sale 34 – 12, , the 3rds had a good win away at Widnes 25 – 15 to remain top of the pile whilst the 4ths/Vets  entertained Whitchurch and won 33 – 15.  No game for the Colts on Sunday.

RUGBY THIS WEEKEND

The Blues entertain make the long treck North up to Tynedale to face the team immediately above them in the table, hoping to close the gap, and the only other side playing this weekend are the 4ths/Vets who go to Duckinfield.

Our Sympathies

It is with sadness that we have to announce the passing away of Mike Banister, former player, Chairman and Treasurer at Macclesfield RUFC. Mike was a real rugby man and valued committee member at Macc for many years and was instrumental in the move from Tytherington to the present ground over 30 years ago. Our sympathies go out to Audrey, Mark, Paul and all his family and friends. Mike`s funeral will take place at Macclesfield Crematorium on Weds 28th January at 11.20am. It will be a civil service and all are welcome.

I also have to announce the death of Bob McCoy,  player at Macclesfield back in the 50`s & 60`s.  Bob leaves a widow, June and our sympathies go out to all Bob`s family and friends.  If you`d like to pay your last respects, the funeral is on the 6th Feb 2015 at 1.20pm, Markeaton Lane Crematoruim Derby DE22 4NH.

RFU RAFFLE

A desperately disappointing start to the RFU raffle with only 7% of tickets sold to date!!  This money is for the benefit of all the sections of the club, so please do your bit and get selling.  If you are one of those who has complained about the lack of decent pitches to play on, do something about it!  3 books per person!!  Come on, surely you can sell 3 books!!

What with the lack of tickets sold and still people not paying subs, any wonder the club struggles for money??!!

There are still 1,696 books still to be sold, that is worth £7,632 to the club !

Row to Twickenham for the World Cup Final

The final of the 2015 rugby world cup will take place on 31st October this year. A team from Macclesfield Rugby Club is going to row the distance from the club to the stadium finishing an hour before kick-off to raise money for the club and for East Cheshire Hospice.

Are you interested in taking part?

What is planned?

  • It’s exactly 305 km (305,000 mtrs) from Priory Park to the gates of Twickenham.
  • We will put together a team to row the distance on static rowing machines, beginning in the afternoon of 30th October and finishing just before kick-off of the final on Saturday 31st.
  • We will seek sponsorship from local companies and from individuals to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice and for priority projects for the club (including improving disabled access, improving the drainage on the new pitch and improving the ladies’ toilets)

What do we need?

  • A team of 10 rowers (ideally of mixed age and sex) prepared to commit to the training over the coming months, to complete the weekend event, and to raise sponsorship money.
  • Support staff:
  • A physiotherapist to support the rowers over the actual event weekend.
  • A sponsorship manager to obtain sponsorship (either financial or in kind) from local organisations and to establish the necessary infrastructure for individuals to sponsor the team.
  • A logistics manager to organise all aspects of the event on the day and to provide communications to sponsors and members over the course of the year.

If you are interested what should you do?

  • Simply send your name, age and contact details and the role you would like to take, to Bev Roberts at the club at bev@maccrugby.co.uk.
  • If we get sufficient interest, we will contact you by the end of the month for a meeting to discuss the project in more detail.

It’s a fantastic way to get fit, an opportunity to be part of a team and to raise money for really good causes – apart from a stone or two, what have you got to lose?!

Already signed up are for rowing; Tim Peakman MBE, MRUFC Secretary; Pete Harper – MRUFC Chairman; Charlie Harper – youngest Harper; Jonathan Marsh- Retail Sales Manager Halliwell Jones BMW Wilmslow.

BOOBS N BALLS CALENDAR 2015

boobs n balls

The 2015 “Boobs N Balls” calendar is now on sale behind the bar – priced at a ridiculously low price of £7.50 ) All proceeds

RFU RAFFLE

We need you to start selling your allocation of tickets…………….don`t come complaing to Management over the state of the pitches unless you have sold your entire allocation………and pushed your team mates, friends, colleagues into selling theirs as well

You should, by now have received the RFU raffle tickets for EACH AND EVERY MEMBER TO SELL. 90% of the takings – potentially £9,000!!! – goes to the club and ALL MONEY raised will be allocated to a specific project to improve the facilities at the club NOT TOWARDS PLAYERS WAGES as is a popular misconception.

We are in desperate need of funds to prolong the life of the astro turf in order that it can keep producing much needed income for the club. The newly laid pitches require better drainage and care. To repair the astro turf and upgrade the playing pitches will cost in the region of £6,000…………… We average around £3,000 each year in ticket sales, (which means only 1 in 3 of our members are pulling their weight) and need twice that to carry out these essential works. Please ensure you sell your allocation as you can see how desperate we are.

IT`S YOUR CLUB AND YOUR FACILITIES THAT NEED UPGRADING, SO PLEASE MAKE AN EXTRA EFFORT THIS SEASON………….
WE`RE ASKING YOU TO SELL 3 BOOKS!!
COME ON!

PLAYERS SUBSCRIPTIONS

If you or your child are playing rugby or football at Macclesfield RUFC, then you need to pay your annual subscription. This is now OVERDUE and we will be cracking down on those who think they are OK to play without paying – please contact Bev at the office or pay online NOW if you haven`t already paid.

I look forward to receiving any articles, news etc for publishing, so please ensure you forward your news to me.

All The Best,
