BLUES SQUAD NEWS

I`m pleased to announce that all the players currently under contract at Macclesfield, have re-signed for next season, with the exception of flanker Phil Williams who is off to study at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. We wish Phil all the very best for his future career and would welcome him back at Priory Park any time he likes. Coach Giles Heagerty is also hoping to announce the signing of a number of new faces to Priory Park in time for next season, so watch this space!

I`m sure there will be a large number of our current Lions squad pushing for places in The Blues line up next season so competition for places should be intense.

JUNIOR RUGBY

Apologies, somehow the following Junior results went astray last week, so hear we go;

Under 13’s acquiring winning ways

Macclesfield under 13 travelled to Caldy festival on the 8th March and came away as plate winners. En route to the plate final we earned a draw with Wirral, lost to Sedgley Park then went on to beat hosts Caldy and Wrexham. All the boys played some excellent rugby and gave it there all. Stand out performances were difficult to distinguish but the rotating engine room of Rory , Ben and Isaac really did all work hard and showed real determination around the park. James Nichols also gave it his all and sported the wounds of putting his body on line for the cause.

Success breeds success and the boys went on to put together a convincing win against Oxton Parkonians on the 19th March. This 57 pts to 7 victory earns them a place in the Cheshire vase final with an expectation to win it. Again the whole team put in a shift but special mention has to go to Dom for showing what he is capable of and to Joe who is growing into a real leader and an unstoppable force. The entire pack put in a fantastic performance and James Warr at outside centre terrorized the opposition.

Well done boys. Keep it up.

Under 13′ won semi final of Cheshire Vase 59 to 7 against Oxton Parkonians. We will play Chester in the final of the vase. We also won the Plate competition at Caldy festival last weekend

Cheers Carl

Match report U15 Bowl semi final 15 th March

Macclesfield 45 : Sandbach 12

Macclesfield built on their strong performance against Wilmslow a couple of weeks earlier and hit Sandbach hard from the start dominating the ball and after some great phase play we scored in the corner. A superb touchline conversion by Collier gave us a well deserved 7 :0 lead. We hit Sandbach again from the kick off with great hands through the backs with Liam out pacing his man for a superb try .Sandbach struggled to cope with our line speed all day and it was only through our over confidence in trying to run the ball out of our 22 ,that allowed them territory and the opportunity to score.

The second half we moved the ball wider and quicker ,finding space out wide with Blackwell and Liam running in more tries. This was a superb performance and look forward to the final in May, probably against Chester

As we head towards the end of the season with Cheshire Cups, Festivals, Tournaments & Tours, please could I ask the coaches to forward me any information, publicity & results in order that I can share with the rest of the Membership.

I`d like to take this oppurtunity to wish all our mini/junior sides the very best of luck for the forthcoming competitions and enjoy the tours!

CHARITY SWIMATHON

Well done to our fantastic Bar Belles for their terrific efforts last Saturday evening. If you have pledged money, please ensure you pay up!

“we WENT, we PLUNGED, we SWAM!

On behalf of ‘Team Bar’, I would like to extend the most enormous THANK YOU to each and every one of you who pledged your hard earned cash to our Rotary Club ‘Swimathon’ endeavours.

The ‘Team Bar’ collective (Blue Belles and Booze Belles) clocked up a pretty impressive 180 lengths in our 45 minute slot; not bad for a mixed bag of Belles more used to pulling pints than strokes eh?

From your donations, we’ve already received / been promised over £500; 50% of which goes directly to Rotary International and the remaining 50% to an incredible organisation, close to so many of our hearts, East Cheshire Hospice.

So, once again, thank you all for your support and contributions very, very, gratefully received and passed on.

Gery

PS. If you still wish to contribute, we’re sure to accept! “

LAST LUNCH OF THE SEASON!

April 18th sees the last home game of this season and with this date now becoming the regular `Former Players Lunch`, it`s always a good day out when old mates meet up and chew the cud about `back in the day`, `when you got 3 points for a try`, it`s not as tough nowadays, the players are spoiled`.  Come and join in the fun, you don`t have to be a former player, it`s just that we try to encourage as many to attend as possible.  Tickets priced at £15 plus entry – book through either Bev in the office or myself peter@maccrugby.co.uk
