OPPURTUNITY TO RAISE £9,000 FOR YOUR CLUB!

It`s that time of year when we ask all our members to sell 3 – yes, only 3! – books of raffle tickets. All money raised will be used directly for the following projects;

  • Continued improvement to the pitches
  • Upgrade to Ladies and Gents toilet facilites in clubhouse
  • And very pertinent at this time of year, a `Board of Remembrance` for all those members of MRUFC who lost their lives during the 2 World Wars.

I can assure you no money will go to paying any players.

To raise this kind of total, EVERY member has to sell their 3 book allocation, so please do your bit.  We simply can`t get near that total unless EVERYONE pulls their fingers out and gets selling.

BLUES EXTEND LEAD AT TOP OF TABLE

A hard fought victory over a well drilled and determined Harrogate side, together with a loss by Sedgley Tigers, saw the Blues extend their lead at the top of National League 2 North to 6 points.  The Macc Lads scored a well worked try (Rhodri Mayor) after just 2 minutes, but it was never going to be an easy afternoon for the boys in blue.  To their credit, both sides tried to play an expansive game, but atrocious conditions meant this had to be tempered with sensible, positional and at times, attritional play.  However, there was one moment of pure magic from Lewis barker as he belied the conditions with some fantastic footwork followed by an outrageous offload to Elliott Brierley who gratefully galloped over to register his 10th try in 10 matches.  Check it out on Blues TV!

A penalty try which came from unrelentless forward play and a penalty from Lewis Barker ensured the match was won and the winning streak would continue.

This match was always going to be a potential `banana skin` for Macc as Harrogate are a very good side, but the boys showed they can cope with extremely difficult conditions and thoroughly deserved the win.

The match was a landmark for Macclesfield`s Sam Moss, who marked his 200th National League match with a Man of the Match performance.  To achieve 200 caps at this level, (the first from a  Macclesfield player) particularly playing in the front row, is remarkable and when you consider, half of these games were in National League 1, the achievement is even greater.  Sam is a real Macc Lad born & bred, having come through the Mini & Junior ranks to become one of the first names on the team sheet every week.  Quiet and unassuming, Mossy has exactly the right attitude Giles is looking for…..ask him to prop, he`ll prop……..ask him to bench, he`ll bench.  Sam has recently started his own Joinery business, so if you need anything doing, why not give him a try! https://www.facebook.com/sjmcarpentryjoinery/?fref=ts .

“His craft is skilled, sturdy & durable, just like Mossy on the park!” (Franky Barkers efforts at advertising!!)

BIG GAME HUNTING COMES TO PRIORY PARK

The Blues will be hunting Lions on Saturday as Leicester Lions are the visitors to Priory Park this weekend.  The Lions currently sit in 5th place in the League and had a convincing win over Sale on Saturday by 38 points to 6 and as always, will be a difficult nut to crack.  Come down to Priory Park and give the Boys in Blue your support as they try to make it 10 from 10.

The next home game after the visit of Leicester Lions is `The Big One` against fierce rivals and title contenders, Sedgley Tigers.  We really need your support – both in physically and vocally as Sedgley will, as always, bring a large number of partisan fans to Priory Park.

Why not join us for `Lunch & Crunch`- 2 course lunch for £10 plus entry fee.

Book with Bev at the club to ensure you get a place.

AROUND THE PARK

Last Saturday saw the Lions lose out to Fylde in the Cup, a fate also suffered by the 3rds who lost at Bolton. The 4ths & Colts had no games on Saturday so will be fresh & raring to go this weekend which sees the Lions away at Fylde (again!) this time for a League match, the 3rds are also on their travels at Burnage, whilst the 4ths host Northwich (2.15)  On Sunday the Colts entertain Liverpool Collegiate (2.00)

MOVEMBER

As many of you will know, this time of year heralds the arrival of hairy top lips for thousands of men all around the country in support of prostrate cancer.  Your very own Clive Kirkham is attempting to grow a moustache (again) and I`m sure he, and all the others, would be extremely grateful of any donations you would like to make.

“Hi Folks,

Over two week in now and counting ! Remember no more dodgy pictures if you donate now , I promise ! I’m getting more and more strange looks and every time my other half looks at me she just sighs and shakes her head ( more than normal ) , but I’m up to £135 so it’s worth it !

Cheers
