BLUES SHOW STEELY NERVE TO BAG 5 POINTS

Macclesfield Blues came within a whisker of losing at Cross Green when they trailed Otley by 4 points with the ref having called ‘last play’. However, the Macc Lads showed why they are top of the League, keeping their composure, keeping possession and pressurising the hosts defence until they inevitably ran out of numbers and Rhodri Mayor took advantage with the winning touch down.  Earlier tries by Sam Moss, Max Smith, Ryan Parkinson & Elliot Millar Mills, together with a couple of Lewis Barker conversions had put The Blues in a position to win the game, but a yellow card for Parky and a fantastic fight back by Otley meant Macc had to really work hard to make sure of the 5 points.

That win on Saturday completed 3 weeks on the road, gaining 3 wins and 14 from 15 possible points against good opposition, and are now on a winning streak of 8 from 8.

This week sees The Blues make a welcome return to Priory Park for the first time in 5 weeks when they entertain bottom of the table Huddersfield, kick off 3.00 pm.  The pre match lunch has SOLD OUT, the 3rds & 4ths are both at home, so there should be a great atmosphere around Priory Park on Saturday…….so come on down and enjoy the craic, watch a great game of live rugby and hopefully see The Blues continue their charge to the League title.

CLUB MEMORIAL BOARD

As part of our efforts to bring back some of those elements of a rugby club that have drifted a little over the years, we are going to commission a memorial board to recognise those members of the club who have died on active service in conflicts around the world.

We have already identified 12  members who were killed in the second world war (and as part of the club history initiative led by Bob Jenner have found out a lot about their service records and decorations) but we invite you to let us know of anyone who has been killed on active service since then. We would now like to extend that Roll of Honour to include former members who died while on active service in subsequent conflicts.

Clearly this is something that we will address sensitively. If you know of a former member who died whilst in service could you let us know about them and if there are surviving relatives so that we can obtain their consent. The first point of contact should be Bob Jenner (bobjenner@gmail.com or via the Club) in his role as lead of the club history.

Thank you for your help.
