Well, the rugby season is all over bar the shouting now, and thoughts naturally turn towards the summer break and a well-earned rest. Unfortunately for Head Coach and Director of Rugby, Geoff Wappett, summer breaks are just a bit of a pipe dream. Whilst others will be putting their feet up, Geoff will be pondering what to do next season, which players to bring to Priory Park, and setting targets for the coming campaign. Being a Director of Rugby is [...]

Having set the bar so high last year, and ended the first season in National league One in third place, Macclesfield Blues were always likely to be on a hiding to nothing this season. Anything less than another third place finish and the critics would be quick to point the finger of blame. The question that really was never asked was whether last season’s top three finish was an accurate reflection of the ability of Macclesfield Rugby Club. Maybe it [...]

The result was a disappointment, but in many ways it was understandable given the demands of a long and tough season. Saturday’s match at Wharfedale in a swirling breeze was possibly just that one game too far. Still, taken as a whole, the season has been by and large successful. Macclesfield Rugby may not have reached last season’s heights in National League One, but they have acquitted themselves admirably none the less. In a season fraught with injuries and racked [...]

Blues are excited to announce an exciting new kit for the 2012-13 season; continuing their relationship with manufacturers Surridge. The home kit will once again reflect the true identity of the club with a stylish shade of Blue, while the new away strip will see a move from red to a more vibrant and exciting pink colour.

Trophies in rugby are a little like buses; they don’t come along very often, but when they do, more than one comes along. Well, potentially at least – nobody’s won anything yet. However, there is a real possibility that in just over a week’s time two of Macclesfield’s rugby teams could be holding a trophy aloft. Both Macclesfield Lions and Macclesfield Fourths have beaten off all competition and will now take their respective places in the Raging Bull Plate Finals [...]

The second annual ‘Boobs vs Balls’ match is set for Priory Park next month with the aim of raising money for a number of charities both locally and nationally. The match on 12th May will feature a team of men against a team of women all involved with the club supporting the East Cheshire Hospice, Breast Cancer campaign and the prostate cancer charity. The event will be rounded off with a celebration at the ground towards the end of June [...]

So normal service was resumed at Priory Park at the weekend. The defeat away at Jersey was laid to rest and the fight resumed for the coveted sixth place. Cinderford were despatched in a relatively routine victory once the wind-factor was overcome.  It may have looked a close score on paper, but anyone who was at the game would tell you the victory was much more comfortable than the score suggests.

Jersey may well be the island home of the super-rich, and the land of plenty, but it’s pretty obvious after last weekend’s result that the islanders don’t believe in sharing it around. Jersey Rugby Club don’t believe in wealth or points redistribution. It was always going to be difficult. Jersey are the form team of the league and have been playing the best rugby all season, so getting any sort of result was always asking a lot. If you took [...]

For any neutral, last weekend’s game at Priory Park was a belter. It was a treat for the home fans too, though the last 13 minutes were certainly nervy and nail-biting. Still, in spite of some inconsistency, the Blues have shown a steely determination and a willingness to chase a result all season, so it won’t have surprised too many when Ross Winney slotted over that final penalty to level the scores. What might have surprised them is that he [...]

It was a disappointing result down at Blackheath, but in many ways it wasn’t entirely unexpected. Blackheath were also a top six team, and had recently been on a good run of form. Macclesfield Blues’ small squad had been stretched to breaking point, which meant that many of the players who were overdue a much-deserved rest, had no other choice but to play. Still, in spite of this handicap, the Blues still managed to put in a creditable performance and [...]
