Signing Sunday! The Blues are delighted to announce six additions to their squad as they look to build on the success of 2015/16 season on their return to English Rugby’s third tier. Four of the signings come in the forwards, and all have experience of being involved in a professional set up. Two lock forwards join Giles Heagerty’s squad with Ollie Parkinson joining from Rotherham Titans, the second rower also spent time with Sedgley Tigers last season. He’s joined in […]
THANK YOU I’d like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE THANKS to each and everyone of you, who helped in any way to make the 2015-16 the most successful (in terms of playing success) season in the 139 year history of the club. This includes players, coaches, parents, supporters, grounds men, laundry man, gate people, physios, bar staff, catering staff, office staff, captains, 4th officials, referees, cleaners, organisiers and volunteers. The list of individuals is endless, so I wont single anyone […]
Last time Macclesfield Blues plied their trade in National League 1, the season effectively ended before it had barely begun. When you’ve got a limited squad and you lose a whole front 5 in the first game of the season, any team, even one with strength in depth, would struggle to continue to compete. We all know how that season ended, but we’ve also seen the team’s resurgence during a dominant National League 2 North campaign.
This is formal advice, that in accordance with the current Rules of Macclesfield R.U.F.C. Ltd., the Annual General Meeting of the Club will take place at the Clubhouse, Priory Park, on Tuesday 31st May at 7.00 p.m. Agenda 1. Introduction and welcome to members present – Peter Harper 2. Remembrance of members deceased this year – Peter Harper 3. Approval of minutes of AGM held 20th May 2015 – Peter Harper 4. Chairman’s Report – Peter Harper 5. Finance Report […]
SEASON ENDS ON A HIGH FOR MACCLESFIELD RUFC A long and hard season of rugby is coming to an end and there are a lot of positives to report for all sections of our club. Taking into account, league positions, titles, cups, this is the single most successful season for MRUFC in its 139 year history. Congratulations to everyone involved in the clubs success and a massive THANK YOU to everyone. Next week, I’ll be publishing a Roll of Honour, so […]
What a difference a year makes. At this time last year Macclesfield Blues were relegated from National League 1 after a particularly difficult season. Twelve months on, and they’re heading back there as National League 2 North Champions. So no one can doubt that this year has been a success, but what did Head Coach, Giles Heagerty, really make of this year’s campaign? What pleased him most? Were there any disappointments and frustrations along the way? Did the Blues live […]
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is putting on a brand new breakfast networking event in Macclesfield at the town’s rugby club.
If you want to finish off a season in style, then do it with a bang in front of your home crowd. After the defeat at Heywood Road, Head Coach, Giles Heagerty, had asked for a response from the team. At Priory Park last weekend Macclesfield Blues delivered on that securing a deserved bonus point victory over fourth place Stourbridge. So, what did Giles think of the performance? Here are his thoughts on the game.
National Two North champions, Macclesfield rounded off a fine campaign with a 43-19 win over fourth placed Stourbridge. The Blues opened the scoring with just two minutes on the clock, openside flanker Matt Thorp finishing a well worked line out move, Tom Eaton added the extras on his 200th appearance for the home side. Stourbridge dominated much of the first half possession but failed to make it count. They were punished on 22 minutes, centre Matt O’Regan taking an offload […]
AFTER THE LORD MAYOR’S SHOW Unfortunately, last Saturdays game at Heywood Road against a very fired up Sale side, resulted in a first defeat since January 2nd for The Blues when they came out 2nd best by 12-29. The side showed 4 enforced changes from the side who comprehensively beat Chester the week before, and were also still skipper Mike Finniemore, but Coach Giles Heagerty wouldn’t make any excuses, other than the Sale boys were desperate for survival and came off […]
