No one expected an easy game at Ealing, and nobody got it. Ealing are top of the league, and last weekend’s performance demonstrated exactly why that is the case. They are the stand-out team at the moment and they will take some stopping. Still, Macclesfield Blues showed a new grit, resilience and determination last weekend even though the game was clearly lost, and that gives Head Coach, Giles Heagerty, hope and confidence that the Blues may just have turned the […]

Macclesfield travelled to away to table topping Ealing Trailfinders this weekend and found it tough going as many expected. The Blues went down early on as the hosts launched a quick-fire counter attack off of debutant Tom Morton’s kick off. Ealing shifted the ball wide quickly and were a try ahead with just moments played. Just two minutes later, the home side doubled their lead and asserted themselves at the scrum, number 8 and captain Danny Kenny going under the […]

The Colts edged a taut encounter with Bolton in which the lead changed five times. Prop Lewis Jones finished the game battered but unbowed, his contribution earning the Man of the Match. The Blues took the lead early with an Ollie Aston penalty. It wasn’t until the second half that they got on the scoreboard again, skipper Tom Leicester touching down after George Phelan had done all the hard work in the maul.

BLUES STILL LOOKING FOR FIRST POINTS Macclesfield Blues took the long journey South on Saturday to face League leaders and promotion favourites Ealing Trailfinders and although they played some good rugby and showed 100% commitment, the result was inevitable given the gulf in playing budgets and strength of squads – Ealing have 32 full time professionals. This Saturday sees Macclesfield play host to the once mighty Coventry who have designs on a return to their glory days when they were the […]

That is the harsh assessment of Head Coach, Giles Heagerty, after a disappointing home loss at the weekend. Macclesfield Blues had the home advantage at Priory Park, but failed to capitalise on this despite a promising opening 30 minute spell. Tynedale proved too tough in the end, though the score was hardly an accurate reflection of the game overall. Macclesfield Blues had plenty of other chances to score, but failed to take them. That in Giles’ view is partly down […]

Macclesfield hosted Tynedale at Priory Park on Saturday as they continued their search for their first win of the season. The Blues started the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded for this on the score board. Firstly, with a penalty from Tom Eaton and then a try from Matt King put The Blues 10-0 up. The try was a result of a fantastic line break from Phil Williams which then gave the backs quick ball and an overlap […]

The Colts expected a difficult day at the office, taking on a full strength Anselmians side with just twelve players plus a loaned prop. The score line shows that the Saints made the extra man tell, but the Blues didn’t drop their heads and kept coming back for more. Captain Tom Leicester was picked out as Man of the Match for his two tries and choosing the right options in midfield. Aled Williams opened the scoring for the Blues, popping […]

Blues’ Head Coach Giles Heagerty refused to be completely negative as his side lost their fourth game from four this season when they travelled to The Northern Echo Arena to face Darlington Mowden Park. “We played our best rugby of the season for 40 minutes, but the harsh reality of National One is that if you’re give over ten penalties away you’ll lose the game, we gave away nine in 20 minutes” The Blues were very impressive in the first […]

The Colts rued their missed opportunities in a game that they dominated territory, but couldn’t maintain possession or find an extra cutting edge to secure the win. Stockport scored early in the first half after the Blues defence had hesitated, thinking they saw a forward pass and a knock on in the scoring move. The Blues then spent long periods in the Stockport twenty two, but came away with nothing for their efforts. It was deep into the second half […]
