On Thursday 14th May Macclesfield Rugby Club held its annual end of season Players’ Dinner at Priory Park. The evening proved to be a great success. The event was attended by over 100 players, guests, the board of directors and Club volunteers. We think it’s safe to say that the evening was very well received.
On Friday the 8th May, 42 Golfers set out on Friday to attack the excellent Davenport Golf course, unfortunately only 36 finished on the 18th green ! This was due to buggies running out of power (honest Matt Harding & John Griffiths!!) and Dom McCarthy & Nick Smith nipping over to Bowden RUFC to collect their 3rd team League Cup .
And so another season at Macclesfield RUFC draws to a close (my 45th) and some of you look forward to taking a break from all things rugby for a few months. For others – Coaches, Committees, Admin Staff, grounds men, the work goes on to ensure that come September we are all ready for the next campaign. I`ve been away for some warm weather training so not entirely up to date with all the achievements of our players, teams and […]
Alex Hannah Concussion is no longer ‘just a bump on the head’. Images of George North lay flat out on the Millennium Stadium turf after a clash with Richard Hibbard sent shockwaves through the rugby world, and concussion became the hot topic. Concussion is a subject that rugby is growing to understand along with the help of other sports such as American Football, as it is now common knowledge that this brain injury is a serious threat to the long […]
Last season may only just have ended, but time stands still for no man – particularly a rugby coach. Many of the players may have their sights set on sunshine and sand, but Head Coach, Giles Heagerty, is simply focused on next season and is already busy making plans for Macclesfield Blues National League 2 North campaign. Who’s leaving? Who’s arriving? Well, the only person with the answer to those questions is the man himself. Here’s what Giles had to […]
Macclesfield Blues may have ended the season with another loss, but at least they finished the season with a bang and not a whimper. They looked keen and eager to carry on, and that fact alone provided all the encouragement Head Coach, Giles Heagerty, needed. He and the team both know that now is not the time for licking wounds; now is the time for dusting themselves down and preparing for the new challenges which await in National League 2 […]
SCINTILLATING DISPLAY OF ATTACKING RUGBY ENDS IN 6 TRIES Macclesfield Blues finished a gruelling 30 game season at Richmond on Saturday in a thrilling display of Barbarian style rugby from both sides. The Blues showed some fantastic attacking flair and no little skill in scoring 6 fantastic tries against their illustrious hosts, but still ended up on the wrong end of the result. Both teams played some scintillating rugby in perfect conditions, with the Richmond pacemen making the difference between the 2 […]
Macclesfield U11 rugby took two teams to this year’s Cheshire Cup Festival held at Winnington Park RUFC, Northwich. On a gloriously sunny day, both teams brought back the silverware to Macclesfield.
The Lions got an early win under their belt in the group stage, with a convincing 5-3 win over Chester Saxons (including 2 7-tackle turnovers). Knutsford were the next team and psychologically they had a big advantage having proved they have very strong attacking in a recent home match. However a hugely improved defence saw them hold out and some great pace won them through (4-2) with 2 7-tackle turnovers.
Giles Heagerty was left applauding his players effort this Saturday despite defeat away at Richmond. The Blues went down 66-41, despite this scoreline Heagerty was left in awe of some of the attacking rugby his side had produced. Only one side this season had visited Richmond and scored more points than The Blues’ 41 and Heagerty admitted that this stat showed how far his side had come this season and how brutal they could be when they had the ball […]
