Match report 13/11/11
Macc Junior Colts entertained Broughton Park intent on reversing their defeat earlier in the season. The match was a competetive and physical encounter from the start with both teams trading tries to leave it 15-14 to Macc at the break.
Macc came out the stronger team, the centre partnership of Sam Broster and Ed Horton being pivotal to some great flowing rugby.
Horton’s try in the second half, under the posts, after a strong run gave some daylight between the teams. Will Preece, who had competed with heart at scrum half, got his just deserts with a try in the last minutes.
Winger Josh Green bagged a hat trick, and special mentions to Connor Frain at 8 who caused all sorts of problems to the opposition, and Captain Tom Burden who never stopped tacklng.
Overall a great team effort, and a great boost for next weeks encounter at Wilmslow.
Match Report 27/11/11
Macc Junior Colts hosted Northwich for this first round tie of the Cheshire Cup. A strong Macc team started off in positive form, taking the game to Northwich, and dominating the early play with the pack utilising their strength advantage. Sam Broster set up Ed Horton for the first try after 5 minutes. Broster scored himself, shortly after Ben Mason had bullied himself over the line for a well earned touchdown in the corner. Further tries from Captain Tom Burden, full back Luke Treanor and No 8 Connor Frain made it 36-0 at the break. To their credit Northwich regrouped and came out gamely in the second half, trading tries with Macc, two apiece, with Macc scores from Jack Sadler, influential on his return, and a second for Broster. The game was ended by a well deserved breakaway dash by scrum half Will Preece, scoring between the posts, Treanor converted his 5th sucessful kick. A special mention for Aiden McGuckian, a worthy Man of the Match with some hard runs through the centre . Final Score 55-10.
