Christian Taylor selected for England Under 16 training camp at Hartpury College

Macclesfield Rugby Club is delighted to announce that hooker, Christian Taylor, has been selected for the England Under 16 training camp which will take place on February 12-14 at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire, following an intensive Divisional Festival at Broadstreet RFC, near Coventry on 1/3 February. 96 young and hopeful age group players attended that training camp, and the England Under 16 selectors have now narrowed that number down to 72. We’re pleased to say that Christian is one of that number and look forward to seeing him progress further.

Christian was part of the North of England Under 16 squad which attended the Broadstreet training camp along with representative teams from the Midlands, London and the South East and the South West. Christian took part in the match against the South West. Though the North narrowly lost the fixture, Christian played particularly well, taking one scrum against the head, hitting all of his line outs and playing an integral part in the first two tries of the day. His performance was greeted enthusiastically by North of England forward’s coach, Joel Williamson who stated: “massive congratulations to Christian. I thought he had another top game on Sunday.”

Christian will now attend the England Under 16 training camp at Hartpury College this week, and will be selected for one of the following teams: England, England North and England South. England Under 16s will play Gloucester Under 17s, whilst England North will play England South. Both matches will be played on February 14.

England Under 16s will then go on to play Italy Under 17s at Lichfield on April 1 and Wales Under 16s at Oxford University on April 6. England North and England South will compete in the annual Wellington International Festival at Wellington College in Berkshire from March 30 to April 5, alongside Wales Under 16 A, United States Under 17, France Under 16 A, France Under 16 B, Scotland Under 16, Belgium Under 17 and Netherlands Under 17. At the Wellington International Festival, England North will play France B on March 31, Netherlands Under 17s on April 2 and Belgium Under 17s on April 5. England South will play France A on March 31, Scotland Under 16 on April 3 and USA Under 17s on April 5.

England Under 16s will have a further training session at St Edward’s School in Oxford from March 9-10, which will include a match against Northampton Under 17s on March 10. England North and England South will train at Cokethorpe School, Oxfordshire, on the same weekend with England South playing Leicester Under 17s on March 10, and England North taking on Wasps Under 17s at the same time.
