Macclesfield Senior Colts 45 – 3 Glossop Senior Colts

Macclesfield Senior Colts notched up their first away victory with a seven try triumph over Derbyshire rivals Glossop. Sean Hammond was the solitary forward to claim a try, the rest were shared out amongst the backs. Winger and Man of the Match Lloyd Smith Coates claimed a hat trick, Ollie Aston collected a brace along with five conversions. Skipper Cam McKay rounded off the scoring with a last minute touch down to break the forty barrier.

Man of the Match – Lloyd Smith Coates

Both sides were a bit cagey in the opening quarter of the game, sharing possession and playing most of the rugby in the middle of the field. Things turned the Blues’ way after Harley Aston kept a Glossop penalty in field with a tap back above his head. The backs regrouped and ran the ball out of their half to within diving distance of the opposition try line. Two rucks later, the ball is span out to the right wing, where Lloyd puts in a massive hand off on his opposite man, then scampers round and under the post for the first score. Will started the move for the next try, with a cheeky interception of the scrum half’s pass. A chip over the defence is regained by Jonny and Brocky. Brocky links with Tom L, who fires a pass off his left hand to Lloyd. Lloyd forces the ball down over the line, after receiving some attention from the Glossop defence.  Ollie showed his footballing skills to beat the Glossop defence to his own chip for the next try, after Tom B’s clearance kick catch and Will’s pass had put him into space. Sean rounded off the first half scoring with a short range try, cutting an inside line of Jonny’s pass, after continuity from backs and forwards alike had moved the ball from right to left into the opposition’s twenty two.

Lloyd secured his hat trick straight from the restart. George made the initial break, then Cam linked with Ollie who drew his man then offloaded to Lloyd who had a clear path to the line for a score under the posts. Ollie’s second try was preceded by the pack probing the opposition defence on to the line. Smiler and George both drove close in the danger zone.  A number eight pick up linking with Harley had the opposition back line outnumbered from a scrum on the twenty two. Ollie came into the line, then ghosted over for the try. Cam started and finished the final scoring move. His dummy on half way set Tom L and Fozzie off down the left wing. The ball was recycled left, finishing with a long pass to Sam Bancroft. Sam muscled his way past two defenders, then offloaded to Cam who had come up on his inside. Cam had some work to do, beating the last defender to slide over for the final try.
