Macclesfield Senior Colts 37 – 18 Winnington Park Senior Colts

Macclesfield Senior Colts knocked Winnington Park for six , crossing the try line half a dozen times to win 37 -18. Ben Hadfield put in the hard yards, regained possession at the breakdown and tackled fiercely to win the Man of the Match plaudits.

James Brocklehurst opened the scoring after a great catch and drive from a lineout in the opposition twenty two. Brocky broke from the back of the driving maul to twist his way over the line for the score. Winnington Park managed to get their backs running – a promising move was stopped by Sam Bancroft rushing across from the opposite wing to put in a great cover tackle. Ben and Dan combined to break through the middle of the opposition’s defence, setting up the field position for the ball to be switched right then left to Crossie who crashed over for the second score. Not for the first time, Ben regained possession in a tackle on the Park twenty two, winning the penalty in front of the posts. Opting to go for the posts, Ollie slotted the penalty to extend Macclesfield’s lead further.

The third and final try of the half came from a five yard scrum. Cam came from deep on the crash ball and had just enough momentum to get over the line for the try. Harley’s box kick from the base of a maul started the next scoring move. Lloyd was first to the ball, picking it off the ground superbly to break down field. Dan was in support, moving the ball to within yards of the line, then Sean finished the move off, crossing the whitewash in the right hand corner. A sloppy pass went to ground on half way. Lloyd picked it up, then sets off on a run down the left wing. Sidestepping the first man, then handing off the rest, Lloyd makes it over the try line to complete a fine individual score. Quick recycling was the key to the final try. Tom L got the backs moving left, then through the hands to Ollie overlapping on the right to dab the ball down over the line.
