Macclesfield captain Tom Eaton was happy to come away with the spoils after Saturday’s clash with Preston Grasshoppers, but admits there is work to be done.
“I would compare the performance to the Birmingham Solihull game, so you’ve got to be pleased to come away with the points.
“We had to dig in and grit it out so it was good to see that we can win ugly if we need to,” explained Eaton.
Last week the Blues ran in 11 tries when they thumped Luctonians, and Eaton was quick to point out that the margins between a big score and having to grind it out are small.
“It’s not possible to run riot every week, this was a similar start to the week before, the only difference was last week the passes went to hand.
“That’s how small the margins are between being good and bad,” he said.
The captain wants the maximum from his team this week, but warned the players not to get ahead of themselves.
“The target is five points and we’ll focus on being accurate.
“But as always we need to ensure getting the win comes first, funny things can happen at this time of year in difficult playing conditions.”
