Mike Finnemore appointed as first team captain

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Finnemore as 1st XV Captain as we move into the new season. His performances this season speak volumes for how far he has come since joining Macclesfield. Having worked with him both at Macclesfield and Cheshire Under 20s Mike and I have a fantastic relationship and he was my first thought when considering who should take the role over from Tom Eaton.

mike-finnemoreI must extend a debt of thanks to Tom for his work as Captain in my time at the club. He works incredibly hard both on and off the field, knows how to manage the officials, makes good decisions and has been a clutch kicker when we have needed him. I cannot think of a better way for him to have signed off as captain than by scoring the points to send us back to National 1. Fortunately neither the team nor I are losing Tom’s expertise as he is joining the coaching staff as Skills Coach along side his continued playing duties. I know he is fully behind Mike’s appointment and being able to call on his experience is something any captain would value.

I have also appointed Jordan Brookes as vice captain, taking over from Dave Marwick. Dave will continue to play but is also joining the staff as Forwards Coach. Again, my thanks go to Dave for his work over the past two years. Jordan may have only joined us part way through last season but the ease with which he integrated into the side combined with his style of play and personality make him, I believe the perfect foil for Mike.

I hope that you will all join me in wishing the new team luck and give them your full support.

Only one result to 'round up' today, but it's a crucial 5 points for the 1st XV, who are now top of the table after Rossendale lost over at Stockport. Here Tommy Taylor (Defence Coach) gives his views on the match. The lads now head into a well-deserved break, and face Blackburn up at Ramsgreave Drive in a fortnight. Next weekend it’s all the Guinness Men's Six Nations action on the screens down at Priory Park. 🍻 🏉 tinyurl.com/MRUTV ... See MoreSee Less
