BLUES lose 53-15 at Esher
I have just returned from a long weekend in London with the highlight being a trip out to Esher to watch the Blues in action. We travelled with so much hope but, after a spirited performance at times from the Blues, Esher chalked up an easy win in the end.
The Blues are still waiting to earn their first points of the season. In what has turned out to be a very difficult start on their return to National 1 the Blues lost to Esher 53-15 at the weekend but were unlucky not to get a bonus point for 4 tries. The Blues did cross the try line in the last few minutes of the game but the referee deemed the ball to be held-up. The team looked good in attack but the penalty count at scrum time took its toll and Esher ran out worthy winners.
The Macclesfield officials were very well look after by Esher on their visit at the weekend and were entertained with stories from John Inverdale over lunch before he travels up to Gleneagles for the Ryder Cup.
The league table shows 4 teams without a victory after 3 games so we must take as many points from Saturdays game at home to Hartpury College to kick-start our season.
I spoke to our coach, Giles Heagerty, straight after the Esher game and he is very confident the team will put things right this Saturday. The squad has a number of key players out injured and I hope we will be welcoming them back onto the field very soon.
Another home game this Saturday
This Saturday will be our 3rd home game in September. We are playing Hartpury College which will be a very tough game. Hartpury have a very close relationship with Gloucester RUFC so you never know who will turn-up to play.
