Getting to Know The Blues

After long a long injury lay off, Macclesfield welcomed back a familiar face last week in Franky Barker who filled the number 8 shirt and was chosen as the chairman’s man of the match.

Franky faced a tough spell on the side-lines and trying to get back to match fitness, but he finally got there and is as strong as ever as a weapon in the Macclesfield Blues arsenal.

After a long layoff last year through injury how good was it to start the first league game of the season at Priory Park?

10 months is a long time to be out of the game and it was such a relief to get back on the field – I have worked very hard over the last few months and managed a couple of games for the 2s last week. There is no substitute for match fitness and I can feel myself gradually getting back to where I need to be.

 

 Any hidden talents?

I can hold and eat a banana with my feet!

 

 Any phobias?

 No real phobias but I can’t stand mustard or wasabi!

 

Biggest joker at the club?

Dave Marwick used to be quite funny but now he’s part of the coaching staff so has dried up a bit

 

 Have you got any nicknames?

A lot of the lads coined the nickname “Phoenix” due to my ability to come back from injuries –  Geoff used to call me the Dominator last year but other than that, just Franky is good.

 

Who would you like to be stuck in a lift with?

Scarlett Johansson

 

Any Hobbies away from rugby?

I recently tried wakeboarding and found that to be great fun and challenging. I pick up my guitar whenever I’m injured and love to have a good sing along with a few drinks – I also love going to new places and experiencing new things – I played seasons in Spain and In Australia when I was younger, rugby is a great vehicle to see the world.

 

Three people you would like to invite to dinner.

I love Hugh Laurie as an actor and he performs with a Jazz band in which he’s a great showman, so he would be a welcome addition. I’d invite Warren Buffett to get some advice on shares and making some money. Shakira would be the third so I can practice my Spanish – She could also sing for us!

 

Who would play you in a film?

Luke Evans, who plays Bard the Bowman in the Hobbit or if he’s not available, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

 

Favourite band/song and film

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Sherry and the Jersey Boys Film – They have been covered so many times and the show is a real education in music! I also love the story line of the Talented Mr. Ripley.

 

Proudest/best rugby moment?

Winning the Sedbergh 10s then Captaining an unbeaten 1st XV season at King’s Macc.

 

Two things you would put in room 101

1. Anti-social media – When people are rudely glued to their phone at the table.

2. Reality TV shows – I do not see the attraction in watching other people’s trivialities.
