 Short & Sweet This Week

JUST REWARDS AT LAST!

The relief at the final whistle was tangible on Saturday as The Blues picked up their first win of a tough season at Lougborough on Saturday.  The shear relief at getting  the monkey off the back was evident in the players, coaching staff and supporters and we cna now hopefully move onwards and upwards.  I`m so pleased for Giles and his coaching team, the players and support staff as this is just reward for all the hard work put in since July 1st.

Elliot Brierley was voted Man of the Match for the 2nd week running (must be his lucky week as he also took delivery of a brand new BMW on Friday!)

As welcome as this result was, it will mean nothing unless The Blues can move on and put together a string of wins over the next few weeks.  Get behind your team, give them your support and backing and come down on Saturday where we entertain Old Albanians.

`Lunch & Crunch` for £10 plus entry fee.  Last time we played Albanians at Macc, 3 Eastern European looking gentlemen turned up and asked if this was where Albania were playing!! (True story!)

RESULTS AROUND PRIORY PARK

As mentioned, The Blues got off the mark with a 5 point win at Loughborough Students 27-29, The Lions hammered Burnage 53-0 in front of a huge crowd – well done and Thanks to Mike Keeling who organised a lunch for those not playing on Saturday- something which may be repeated in the New Year.  On Sunday, The Colts lost away at Orrell in what appears to be a ferocious encounter.

RUGBY THIS WEEKEND

The Blues entertain Old Albanians at 3.00 in what is the proverbial `8 pointer`and we need your support, and we are holding a “Lunch & Crunch” at £10 plus entry fee. Menu is;

Steak & Ale Pie

Hand Cut Chips

Manchester Caviar

Selection of English & Continental Cheeses

The Lions and 3rds are both on their travels with The Lions playing Caldy and the 3rds at liverpool St. Helens, both games kick off t 2.15

NEXT HOME GAME FOR THE BLUES

Daecember 6th sees Macclesfield Bluse play host to Wharfedale in another `must win 8 pointer` – kick off 3.00.  Come down and support your club for what will surely be a fantastically competitive game of rugby between 2 teams at the wrong end of the table.  The Christmas Lunch is almost sold out and the atmosphere should be electric!

Blues star converts to Halliwell Jones BMW Blues star converts to Halliwell Jones BMW

Elliot Brierley, Macclesfield RUFC 1st team player, has picked up his brand new BMW 1 Series from club sponsors Halliwell Jones Wilmslow. Elliot, who has played for teams such as Wilmslow and Rotherham in the past, has now settled at Macclesfield. He can play both inside and outside centre, making him an extremely versatile first team player. Halliwell Jones Wilmslow is sponsoring Macclesfield Rugby Club for a period of two years, and visitors to the Priory Park home ground will have noticed there is now a Halliwell Jones Stand.

Since the start of the season Elliot and his team members have been wearing the Halliwell Jones BMW logo on their rugby shirts, so he decided to pop down and take a look for himself. Elliot chose a brand new BMW 116i Sport in Mineral Grey, and picked it up from Sales Executive Dave Willis on Friday 14th November. Jonathan Marsh, New Car Sales Manager, commented “We are delighted that Elliot has chosen Halliwell Jones to provide his new BMW. Our partnership with the club presents an exciting opportunity for Macclesfield RUFC, its players, supporters and Halliwell Jones along with its customers and staff.”You can follow Macclesfield’s progress here: https://www.macclesfieldrufc.co.uk/ – See more at:

CHRISTMAS LUNCH

The MRUFC Christmas Lunch is to be held on December 6th for the visit of Wharfedale. Unfortunately, due to the way the fixtures have fallen, this is the last home match before Christmas, however, hopefully it means more people will be able to attend before other Christmas functions take over. There will be some fantastic raffle and auction prizes, plus believe it or not……………..Santa Claus himself will be in attendance!

Price is a bargain at £25 plus normal gate entry cost.

THERE ARE JUST A FEW PLACES LEFT, SO IF YOU WANT TO ATTEND, YOU NEED TO CONTACT BEV ASAP. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BOOKED, YOUR PLACE ISN`T SECURE UNTIL IT`S PAID FOR – PLEASE ENSURE YOU PAY BY FRIDAY 21 st NOVEMBER OTHERWISE YOUR PLACE MAY BE OFFERED TO SOMEONE ON THE WAITING LIST.

Santa

RFU RAFFLE

We will shortly be distributing the RFU raffle tickets for EACH AND EVERY MEMBER TO SELL. 90% of the takings – potentially £9,000!!! – goes to the club and ALL MONEY raised will be allocated to a specific project to improve the facilities at the club NOT TOWARDS PLAYERS WAGES as is a popular misconception. We are in desperate need of funds to prolong the life of the astro turf in order that it can keep producing much needed income for the club. The newly laid pitches require better drainage and care. To repair the astro turf and upgrade the playing pitches will cost in the region of £6,000…………… We average around £3,000 each year in ticket sales, (which means only 1 in 3 of our members are pulling their weight) and need twice that to carry out these essential works. Please ensure you sell your allocation as you can see how desperate we are for the money.

A CHRISTMAS TREAT!

Paul Bartle (club member and teacher at Kings School) and Fred Taylor (2nd team & Colts coach) are organising a try festival for Tuesday 23rd December when a Macclesfield Select take on a Kings Former Pupils team under the lights at Priory Park. It will fun, fast & furious! Kick off time and final details to be decided, but put in your diary now!
