Macclesfield Colts 32 – 0 Kendal

The eleven Colts that made the trip to Kendal adapted the better to the atrocious conditions, out-tackling their opponents and scoring five unanswered tries in their 32-0 win over their Cumbrian rivals. Despite being outnumbered, the Blues tackled fiercely, competing at the breakdown and around the fringes to ensure that the opposition could not spin the ball wide. The front row in particular fought hard to regain possession. Man of the match Elliot scampered around the pitch, wrapping up man and ball in defence and making yards in attack. Kendal nominated Ben as their Man of the Match following another robust performance in the loose and being ever present at the breakdown.

The Blues started slowly, gauging the strength of the wind behind their backs. Ollie opened the scoring with a penalty conversion in front of the posts after Kendal had infringed 20 metres out from their line. The conditions thwarted some promising moves, until Harry had an encouraging run down the right wing. Aled followed up his own kick into the in- goal area, and was only just beaten to the ball by the covering winger. Some slick handling between the forwards made some ground, until eventually Mike exploited a gap on the narrow side, outpacing the defence to score under the posts.

Despite playing into the gale in the second half, the Blues pulled away from their opponents scoring four tries, on the back of some pressure defence, particularly from Ben, Elliot and Tom. Scrum half Harry took a quick tap penalty to himself, slipped a tackle then scored next to the posts. Callum W then made the most of his charge down, to collect the ball and then weave his way down the left wing to score in the corner. Ollie then scored in the opposite corner, after Callum D had dodged his way to within ten metres of the line after being put into space by Tom. Ben scored the fifth and final try after snatching possession at a lineout, then charging through the twenty two, eluding the cover defence to score in the right hand corner.
