“CLUB`S” FIRST EVER WIN AT PRIORY PARK

Macclesfield Blues proud record of never losing at home to the famous Blackheath club, came to an end on Saturday as `Club` turned round a half time defecit to take 5 points at Priory Park on Saturday.  The Blues started off in fine form and scored a splendid try out on the left, created and finished by Man of the Match Matt O`Reagan.  The Blues took a well deserved lead into the half time break, but failed to press home the advantage in the 2nd half, allowing `Club` back into the game.  Blackheath then dominated the match to run out deserved winners and pick up a bonus point in the process.

UNDER 14`S

Macclesfield progress into the Cheshire Cup Semi Final with a 77-0 victory over local rivals Stockport (apologies to all Under 14`s……….I should have put in last weeks letter – Congratulations to all concerned)

Macc produced their finest display of the season against a determined Stockport team, the running was superb, tackling aggressive, passing accurate and support play exceptional. This resulted in 13 tries to nil !! The coaches were exceptionally pleased with everyone’s attitude and application. Many of the Stockport parents and Coaches said that this was the best side they had ever played against, high compliments indeed !!

Too many players to mention scoring but the pleasing thing was that every player played for the team, if there was an opportunity to pass to someone in a better postion they did. This was a real advancement in the the rugby we play.

Toby Moule scored the try of the match collecting the ball from behind his own try line, he beat 7 defenders, out sprinted several others to score under the posts, he was supported by at least 5 Macc players who were all in support.

All 22 players were involved today, we made 7 subs with 15 minutes to go !! Special mention to the other 6 players who turned up to train and support the team

Onwards into the Semi final !!

£9,000 FOR MACCLESFIELD RUFC!!

Sounds great doesn`t it!! Just think what we could do with £9,000??!?! Improve the pitches to the benefit of all sections, repair and improve the astro turf in order that we can prolong its life and produce much needed revenue, improve the totally inadequate toilet facilities.

Well, £9,000 is sat there in your kit bag, on the mantlepiece, in the kitchen draw, in your jacket pocket and it will stay there until you sell your RFU raffle tickets.

Please don`t come complaining to Management over the state of the pitches unless you have sold your entire allocation………and pushed your team mates, friends, colleagues into selling theirs as well

As you can see from the table below, it`s been a pretty poor effort so far!

Row to Twickenham for the World Cup Final

The final of the 2015 rugby world cup will take place on 31st October this year. A team from Macclesfield Rugby Club is going to row the distance from the club to the stadium finishing an hour before kick-off to raise money for the club and for East Cheshire Hospice.

Are you interested in taking part?

What is planned?

  • It’s exactly 305 km (305,000 mtrs) from Priory Park to the gates of Twickenham.
  • We will put together a team to row the distance on static rowing machines, beginning in the afternoon of 30th October and finishing just before kick-off of the final on Saturday 31st.
  • We will seek sponsorship from local companies and from individuals to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice and for priority projects for the club (including improving disabled access, improving the drainage on the new pitch and improving the ladies’ toilets)

What do we need?

  • A team of 10 rowers (ideally of mixed age and sex) prepared to commit to the training over the coming months, to complete the weekend event, and to raise sponsorship money.
  • Support staff:
  • A physiotherapist to support the rowers over the actual event weekend.
  • A sponsorship manager to obtain sponsorship (either financial or in kind) from local organisations and to establish the necessary infrastructure for individuals to sponsor the team.
  • A logistics manager to organise all aspects of the event on the day and to provide communications to sponsors and members over the course of the year.

If you are interested what should you do?

  • Simply send your name, age and contact details and the role you would like to take, to Bev Roberts at the club at bev@maccrugby.co.uk.
  • If we get sufficient interest, we will contact you by the end of the month for a meeting to discuss the project in more detail.

It’s a fantastic way to get fit, an opportunity to be part of a team and to raise money for really good causes – apart from a stone or two, what have you got to lose?!

Already signed up are for rowing; Tim Peakman, MRUFC Secretary; Pete Harper – MRUFC Chairman; Charlie Harper – youngest Harper; Jonathan Marsh- Retail Sales Manager Halliwell Jones BMW Wilmslow, Kevin Wright, Captain Chaos (Steve Branch), Nick Cooke.

Could do with a couple of Ladies to even up the balance a bit…………come on
