From The Chair 32

Macclesfield Blues were unable to secure the elusive win at Priory Park that they so desperately wanted on Saturday, despite scoring 5 tries.  Cinderford proved to be just to powerful in the pack and ran out 31 -44 winners to bag 5 invaluable points for the team from Gloucestershire.  Despite the defeat, The Blues played some fantastic rugby and scored some scintillating tries – one superb individual effort from Ollie Fewtrell really sticks in the memory.  It`s been a tough, uncompromising season for The Blues squad and it doesn`t get any easier with an away trip to the famous Richmond Club in London next week, to finish off a disappointing season.

The match on Saturday was the last as a Blues player in front of a home crowd for club stalwart Chris Jones, who is assisting Giles with the coaching next season,  the last as 4th official for Albert Simpson and also the final match at Priory Park for Caron Doyle in her role as Head of Rehabilitation. I`m sure you`d like to join me in thanking all 3 for their services and in wishing them well for the future.

C.J. signs out at Priory Park
Caron will be missed by all…….best of luck!

Macclesfield Lions (2nd XV) came from behind to completely overwhelm title rivals Sedgely Tigers on Saturday by 40 points to 11, to be in touching distance of the League title.  A home win against Caldy on Saturday is all that stands in their way, so if you`re not going down to leafy Richmond on this weekend, come to Priory Park and see the Lions take the title – kick off 3.00pm – entry free.

Macclesfield 3rds thrashed Northwich 2nds by 76 – 5 to take the title and win promotion, smashing through the 1,000 points scored barrier in the process.  Congratulations to Skipper Nick Smith and everyone else who contributed to the success………well done all!

The 4ths/Vets finished the season in style by seeing of Crewe & Nantwich at Priory Park by 44 -14 to finish the season in a creditable 4th place.  Well done to Jason Walker, Boz and the numerous players who have turned out for the 4ths this season……..many of them Vets having one last fling!

Coach Iain (Fred) Taylor watched nine Colts play their last game of youth rugby for Macclesfield after playing and coaching together for ten years. See picture below of a very proud Fred with the 9 players who now move into Senior rugby after 10 years together in Mini/junior & Youth rugby. – click here to read the report

All reports from tours, competitions, festivals & tournaments will be in a separate newsletter later in the week –  too may to fit on this one and still waiting for some reports, so if you want your team mentioned, please send me details by return

The Blues finish a gruelling 30 game season down at Richmond on Saturday, we wish them well and hope they can finish on a well deserved high with a victory.  As mentioned, The Lions take on Caldy at Priory Park and a win will see them crowned Champions……..come down and give them your support, they play some fantastic rugby.

The 3rds & 4ths are now enjoying a well earned break and will hopefully be down at Priory Park to cheer on The Lions.

A.G.M. May 20th

Notice is hereby given that the A.G.M. is to be held on Wednesday May 20th 7.00pm.

Macclesfield are hosting a 7 a side festival on Sunday 17th May at Priory Park, a game for young bloods apparently played on a full sized pitch with only 7 players each side !!  We have 16 teams playing including sides from Barrow in Furness, Coventry and even Kent !! That is 192 players at the club, almost as many players that played in Mark Marshall’s last game.

We could do with some help on the day manning the car park from approx 8:15 until approx 10:30

If you could give up a few hours to help out on the car park that would be great – please contact Robert Oliver

The following lucky folk have won money in the latest 200 Club Draws – you have to be in it to win it!

April 2015 – John Brown £100, Tom Rochford £60, Peter Warrington £30

After too many seasons to remember, Albert Simpson is hanging up his track suit for the final time this Saturday.  Albert tried to retire from the position of 4th Official a couple of seasons back, but stayed on (Thankfully) as we were unable to find a replacement for this key role.  I`d like to take this opportunity to say `Thank You` to Albert for his sterling work as 4th Official over the last few seasons – Albert, we appreciate the great job you`ve done and wish you well in `retirement`.

This clearly means we are looking for a replacement as 4th Official for Home Games, something we are required to supply, so if you are interested in filling this vitally important position please e-mail me I believe Albert has volunteered to steer the `new boy` (or girl!)  in the right direction for the first weeks.

Now that the holiday season is almost upon us (unless your name is Charlie Halle and the whole year is Holiday season) why not make the effort to get that beach body you promised yourself??  Boot Camp at Priory Park will not only get you in shape, you will be helping your club raise much needed funds.

Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7.00 pm – it`s fun, it`s social, it`ll make you feel great! For Ladies & Gents, Young & Old, Fit or Fat……….All welcome and catered for!

Giles is in conversation with a `key player` for next season and we are keen to assist in finding him a job.  He is graduating this June and is predicted a 2:1 in Business Management and is ideally looking for a career in the Marketing/Advertising business.  If you are able to assist by way of offering an interview, pointing him in the right direction etc. please contact me  Thanks in anticipation.

The above is a menu from the Dinner 40 years ago – which was the last time we held the dinner on a Friday during the season – I seem to recall all 5 sides got stuffed by Winnington Park the next day!  Anyone else at that dinner going to this one??!!

I`m pleased to say we have had now had 3 very strong applicants for this important post and we are moving towards interviews.
