BOSLEY WOOD TREATMENT

I`m sure that, like me, everyone involved at Macclesfield Rugby Club was shocked and saddened by the tragic events which unfolded in Bosley on Friday and over the weekend. Bosley Wood Treatment has had close links with MRUFC for many, many years, and we offer our thoughts and sympathies to all those affected by the incident.  As well as offering our thoughts to those affected by the incident, I`m sure many of you would like to offer support in a more tangible way.  A fund raising campaign has been set up, backed by Cheshire East Council, to provide assistance to the village, and I would encourage everyone to help by contributing as much or as little as you see fit.  http://www.gofundme.com/znkr4vg

You will probably recall Bosley Wood Treatment Tug of War teams being World Champions on several occasions `back in the day`, and they appeared at our Family Fun Day last season.  See below an e-mail received from Alan Knott from the Bosley Tug of War Club regarding a couple of fund raising events.  It would be great if Macclesfield Rugby Club could enter a team for the T.O.W., so if

“Hi Pete,

If you can help spread the word about the appeal then that would be great. There is an BBQ and band at the Harrington Arms this Friday evening from 6pm, and a fun day is being arranged at the Queens Arms for Saturday 8th August. We have been asked to organise a tug of war competition on Saturday 8th August at the fun day and we will be looking for teams to take part. Perhaps Macc RUFC could enter a team and we could get a few of the other local rugby teams (Congleton, Leek, Sandbach, etc) to take part? I will get back in touch with more info shortly as there is a lot happening.

Regards Alan”

We are also entering a ream or 2 in a (3rds/4ths/Vets) in a `mini tournament` to be played either at priory Park or Congleton RUFC.  All funds raised to go to the appeal.

If you are interested in entering any of the above events, or are aware of other fund raising activities that you`d like to promote, please e-mail me in the first instance peter@maccrugby.co.uk

COLTS COACH APPOINTED.

mike-finnemore1-136x194I`m delighted to announce that the Blues Captain, Mike Finniemore has been appointed as Colts Coach for the upcoming season.  We see this as an extremely important position, and with Mike taking up the role, this dovetails with the club`s policy of integrating the Youth section into the senior section of the club.  As well as being the 1st XV Captain, Mike holds a Level 2 Coaching Certificate and is also the Cheshire Under 20`s Coach, and will bring his own brand of enthusiasm and commitment to the Colts.  I`m sure you`d like to join me in wishing Mike all the best and in supporting him in his new role.

MAN WITH VAN (men with van actually!)

Simon Holding has very generously donated a Multi Gym & Cross trainer to the club – his wife has seen the futility of Simon trying to keep fit and she has very sensibly, decided to turn the home gym into a bar!  Can anyone out there spare an hour or so to pick up from Simons ranch and drop off at the club?  Looking at week beginning August 3rd.  Will probably need a couple of trips in Transit sized van or 1 trip in a larger van, plus 2-3 `shifters`.

If you can help, please contact me peter@maccrugby.co.uk – Thanks.

FAMILY FUN DAY.

Still have need for volunteers to make this day happen (all proceeds to M.J. section).  Please contact Phil Mason if you can help in any way whatsoever. phil.mason2@gmail.com

DOCTOR BAKER

Well known local GP, Doctor Baker, sadly passed away last Friday.  Dr. Baker worked at the local practice in Macclesfield from 1959 – 1992 and was an avid supporter of MRUFC over many years, he was also father to John, Sam & Tim, who all played at Macc in the 70`s & 80`s.  Our thoughts and sympathies go out to all the Baker family at this sad time.  Dr. Baker`s funeral is at the Prestbury Parish church Friday 31st July at 12.00., then up to Prestbury Golf Club.
