Macclesfield Blues came out on top by 53 points to 37 in a roller coaster of a rugby match on Saturday with some sublime attacking rugby culminating in a contender for try of the season, mixed with some inept defence and none existent tackling.  However, it`s 5 points in the bag for the 3rd game in succession and a hat trick for Elliot Brierley, a brace for Rhodri Mayor and 1 each for Elliott Miller Mills, Dave Marwick and Ryan Parkinson, with Lewis Barker slotting over 13 points.

Why not come down to Priory Park on Saturday to see the Blues take on a tough  South Leicester side, in their inaugural visit to Macclesfield – the visitors having defeated Chester away and Sale at home so will be a tough nut for The Blues to crack. kick off 3.00pm………ensure you`re there!

Another piece of the jigsaw as head coach extends contract.

Macclesfield RUFC has taken another important step in its development plan by securing the services of head coach Giles Heagerty for a further two years. Despite the results last year, the season was one of transition with Giles moving the first team squad to a new style of play and building greater professionalism in the off-field preparation and activities. We are looking forward to seeing the fruits of this with keen anticipation.

Pete Harper, chairman, said “we are delighted to be able to build around Giles for the foreseeable future. We are extremely lucky to have a level four coach but Giles is someone who sees his role as more than that of just the first team. He is keen to be involved in a much more integrated approach involving the whole club and recognises the benefits that will bring. He has built a fantastic team both on and off the pitch and it is testament to his standing, that he is able to attract such professional individuals to Macclesfield rather than clubs with greater financial resources. Even during the hardest periods of last season, Giles maintained his commitment and confidence in the longer term picture”

Giles Heagerty said “I’m very pleased to extend my contract here. Macclesfield is a great club that is well supported and is developing positively in every aspect. There is a real momentum building here and it’s good to be part of it. There will, no doubt, be setbacks along the way but I’m confident the whole club, not just the first team, is going in the right direction.”

Last Saturday saw the Lions continue their fantastic winning streak with a comprehensive 59 – 11 win over previously unbeaten Waterloo (match report on website), the 3rds were narrowly defeated by Wirral 2nds 41-32 and Lymm conceded the match against the 4ths (must have heard Boz was due to play!)

This Saturday sees The Lions travel to Sale FC, the 3rds entertain Bolton 2nds at Priory Park, the 4ths are away at Trafford MV (all kick off`s 3.00pm)  and on Sunday the Colts are up on the Lancashire coast at Fylde with a 2.00 k.o.  Good luck to all our teams this weekend.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of support and 20+ late withdrawals, the pre match 2 course meal has had to be cancelled, a real shame because Mike Keeling has put a huge amount of effort into organising this event.  I understand the bar will be open, so come down and see if England can rescue their World Cup campaign with a victory over the Ozzies.

As part of our process to build bridges and integrate with the community of Macclesfield and with other sporting bodies within our town, we are offering free entry to all Macclesfield Town season ticket holders for the visit of Otley on October 17th, providing they wear either a Macc Town or Macc rugby shirt.  I would urge you to treat any and all Macc Town supporters as potential future club members (players!) and make them welcome at Priory Park and help them appreciate our great game of rugby.

Macclesfield Town are looking at reciprocating the offer at The Moss Rose ground later in the season, but in the meantime, if you can`t make it to watch The Blues at Tynedale on the 10th October, The Silkmen are playing Kidderminster at The Moss in a game televised live by BT Sport and all Students and Under 18`s are admitted free for the game.

A gentle reminder that subs are due, so please ensure you`re not one of those being chased for none payment in the weeks to come.  Please note, playing membership carries a £20 surcharge if not paid by 15th October and a free season ticket is included if paid by the 15th so go to the website, click on `The Club` tab, scroll down to `Membership Forms` and become a member.

We currently have 2 players with signed contracts, looking for employment in the Macc area.  If you have any (or know of any) vacancies, please contact myself in the first instance, and I`ll pass on details to Giles.

Macclesfield Blues travel to the beautiful Herefordshire countryside on Oct 24th to take on Luctonians.  This is always a very social occasion and Lucs are great hosts.  Why not take advantage and make a weekend of it by staying at The Bateman Arms?  They are offering special rates (see below) and even offer a courtesy car to take you to & from the ground.

“We are situated in the village of Shobdon a 5 minute drive from the club. We have 6 rooms (3 Double (£65), a Twin (£80), a Triple (£120) (can be used as a twin ) and a Family room with 2 double beds. All are ensuite and the prices include breakfast. We have two Chefs who prepare very tasty food that continues to give us good reviews. Friday evening is darts night so there is plenty of life here and we offer a drop off and pick up from the Rugby Club on Saturday so the guests don’t have to “abstain” in order to drive.

We have a website that can be viewed at

If anyone would like to book ask them to call directly and I’ll see if we can apply a discount for a two night stay.

Good luck for the season and hopefully I’ll have time to get down a meet you on 24th if you travel with the team
