From The Chair 13

The Blues overcame a spirited and determined Sandbach side on Saturday, to reach the final of the Cheshire Cup for the first time in a number of seasons.  However, they did it the hard way by giving the hosts a 26 – 3 lead at the break.

I wasn`t at the game (on the row to Twickenham!) so can`t comment on the match other than to say `congratulations` to the squad for turning round a 23 point deficit in a semi final, and also commiserations to Sandbach on what must have been an extremely disappointing result given the half time score.

This week sees The Blues return to League matters as they take on 4th placed Sandal at Priory Park and endeavour to keep the winning streak alive.  The Blues have won the last 7 League matches in a row, with an average of 6 tries per game and at a scoring rate of 1 point every 2 minutes………..none of these penalties or drop goals!  Sandal have won 6 from 8 and have beaten early pace setters and promotion favourites, Sedgley Park and will come to Priory Park confident they can go away with the spoils.

Why not come for the pre match lunch (2 courses, £10 plus entry)

This Saturday sees The Lions visit Caldy, the 3rds host Broughton Park and the 4ths host Oswestry. Tomorrow, the Colts entertain Sandbach here at Priory Park.

Ready for Christmas Lunch!

As you may be aware, we host ambitious Sale FC on Saturday 19th December and the match will be preceded by our ever popular Christmas Lunch.  As the Christmas lunch is always oversubscribed, with several members being disappointed, we have given some thought as to how we can try to ensure loyal supporters of the lunches are given priority.

With this in mind, and to be fair to everyone, we will be offering priority to those who attend one of the following lunches

Therefore, if you are planning on booking a place at The Christmas Lunch, please ensure you book a place for one of the following;

  • 7th November v. Sandal – 2 courses for £10, plus entry
  • 21st November v. Leicester Lions – Formal Pre Match Lunch – 3 courses £15 + entry
  • December 5th  `Le Crunch` against fierce rivals, SEDGLEY PARK – 2 courses for £10, plus entry

   Why not get a table together with some pals and enjoy the `craic` before the big event??  Contact Bev in the office to reserve your place.

Abrunch-bus-chester-webWAY DAY TO CHESTER £20

We are trying a coach trip to the Chester game on 12th December with brunch at the club – Buffet style cooked breakfast including tea, coffee, fresh juice etc. –  and return coach included in the cost.  We need a minimum of 25 to make this work, so please make the effort to join us for what is always a fiercely contested game  against our rivals from the west of the county.  Cost is £20 p.p. including the brunch or £15 for coach only.  If you are planning on going, please contact Bev ASAP in order that we can assess the uptake.

Rugby Club 24 hour row for charity.

Macclesfield Rugby Club have been celebrating the success of the Rugby World Cup by rowing the distance to Twickenham to raise money for charity and for improvements to the club. On Friday and Saturday, a team of 10 members rowed the 300km distance from the rugby club on Priory Lane to the gates of Twickenham on a static rowing machine, each member rowing a fantastic 30,000 metres each. The team members, including Chairman Pete Harper, rowed for in relay 24 hours non-stop to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice and for projects at the rugby club. The rowers and their support team were cheered on by friends and family as they continued through the night finishing just before the final on Saturday afternoon with rower David Notley having the honour of crossing the finishing line. On completing the event, the Chairman commented, “We’re all pretty tired and sore but this has been a worthwhile effort for a tremendous charity and is consistent with our strong focus on community engagement. The share allocated to the rugby club will go towards projects such as improving disabled access and coach development for the minis and juniors. It was hard work but great fun and we’re especially grateful to all of our support team who gave their time and services for free, and to our kit suppliers O`Neills who provided the shirts.  I`d also like to say Thanks to each and everyone who has supported us through donations or support”

The total raised so far stands at £2,600 which will be split between the two organisations. Pictured below is the team after completion of the event.
