It’s disappointing to lose another game to weather

Macclesfield lost yet another game to the weather this weekend, when their game away at Otley was called off.

Head Coach Giles Heagerty was left frustrated at the situation but still in a buoyant mood due to another strong week of training from his squad.

“We’re disappointed to lose another game to the weather, the rain has been absolutely ridiculous, its become an irritation more than anything else. I’m a little bit disappointed we weren’t able to get in touch with anyone about the state of the pitch because in my point of view there was no way that pitch was going to be playable. We’ve had a really good week in practice this week, and this gives us opportunity to have another good week of training in the build up to Luctonians on Saturday. We move on now, we turn attention to next Saturday, and another bonus is we’ll come here on Easter Saturday and it might be a dry track.”

The Blues travelled to Otley with a few changes from the squad that defeated Tynedale at home, Billy Robinson, Chris Jones, Ben Jones and Greg Newton came into the squad as Heagerty looked to look after some players who had picked up knocks the week before.

“Marshall Gadd, Franky Barker and Harrison are all carrying bumps we need to look after. We’re thankful to have a squad that allows us to do that. Billy has been training like a machine, and playing well for the 2s so he is definitely worth a look at. You just felt that coming somewhere like this, you’d need someone like Chris Jones to have come off the bench towards the back end of the game, but it wasn’t to be.”

Chris Jones and Billy Robinson were both part of the side that got promoted from this division two seasons ago, and Heagerty believes being able to call upon that type of experience is key to how well his side have performed this term.

“the experience we’ve got throughout the spine of this team is fantastic, Tom Mantell, Sam Moss, Martin Kent, Mike Finnemore, Tom Eaton. There is close to a thousand caps across that group. So to then be able to bring Chris and Billy into the squad is huge, Chris has around 150 caps for Macc and Billy isn’t far behind.”

The Blues face second bottom Luctonians this weekend at Priory Park in what Giles is sure to be another tough test, but Heagerty insists his side must continue to take It one game at a time and concentrate on nothing but themselves.

“Luctonians are trying to get themselves out of the mire, they’ve picked up some good wins but we’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves. We’re at Priory Park so we’ll be looking to keep our good home form, its always good to be at home.”
