From the Chair 30

Yet again, we as a club, have failed miserably to make some decent money out of what is the simplest, easiest way to make money there can be.

Out of a potential £7,500, we have just about squeezed past £2,500 – 1/3rd of the money we could be taking.

We have been granted an extension to ticket returns until Sunday 3rd April, so if people still have tickets they can return them to the club ASAP.

Macclesfield Blues made it 6 wins from 6 starts and scored 6 tries on Saturday against a very physical Preston Grasshoppers to maintain their 18 point cushion at the summit of National League 2 North.  The game was over as a contest by half time as the Macc Lads ran in 4 tries to secure the bonus point ahead of the break, before a combination of a Preston comeback and a lack of concentration allowed the hosts to score twice.  However, the result was never in doubt as The Blues sealed a fine win with the last 2 tries of the afternoon to run out winners by 38 – 16. First half tries were scored by Harrison Lewis crashing over from close range following great work by the pack, a fine individual try from Jordan Brooks showing quick thinking from a tapped penalty, Elliot Brierley with his 14th of the season, and Parky scoring his customary try to seal the bonus point. Replacement Greg Newton and winger Matt King  finished off the try scoring in the 2nd half with Lewis Barker successful with 4 conversions. A very satisfactory result for The Blues on their 2nd away game of 3 in a row, with the same application needed this Saturday for the visit to dangerous Leicester Lions, beaten only once at home this season.

As you can see, there are only 3 home games left this season, so make sure you get down to Priory Park to watch the Macc Lads push for the League title – be there, feel it, be part of it!

As part of our efforts to bring back some of those elements of a rugby club that have drifted a little over the years, we are going to commission a memorial board to recognise those members of the club who have died on active service in conflicts around the world.

We have already identified 12  members who were killed in the second world war (and as part of the club history initiative led by Bob Jenner have found out a lot about their service records and decorations) but we invite you to let us know of anyone who has been killed on active service since then. We would now like to extend that Roll of Honour to include former members who died while on active service in subsequent conflicts.

Clearly this is something that we will address sensitively. If you know of a former member who died whilst in service could you let us know about them and if there are surviving relatives so that we can obtain their consent. The first point of contact should be Bob Jenner ( or via the Club) in his role as lead of the club history.

Thank you for your help.
