MACCLESFIELD RUGBY CLUB DO THE TREBLE IN RECORD BREAKING SEASON!!
What a fantastic 6 days it has been!…3 titles in less than a week for the Macc Lads, making 2015-2016 officially the most successful season for the Senior Club in it’s 139 year history!
How the week unfolded.
- Wednesday April 13th, The Lions become Cotton Traders Premiership Champions when they won away at Sedgley Park 32-3

- Saturday April 16th, The Blues are crowned Champions of National League 2 North for the 3rd time, and are promoted into National League 1 at the 1st time of asking, after taking maximum points at Priory Park against Chester.

- Tuesday April 19th, MRUFC become County Champions winning The Cheshire Cup by defeating Caldy by 46 – 27

NATIONAL 2 NORTH CHAMPIONS!
Priory Park saw the biggest crowd of the season, witness The Blues win the League title in style with still 3 games of the season remaining! A carnival atmosphere was in the air as Giles’ team took to the field against Chester, knowing a single point would see them to the title and promotion. 85 minutes later, there were 5 points in the bag and the celebrations began in earnest. The Blues stand proudly at the summit of N2N with a huge margin of 25 points over 2nd placed Sedgley Tigers, just reward for the hours & hours of graft, hard work, blood & sweat put in by all the squad and management since pre season started at the end of June.
Next season will bring new challenges, but in the meantime, let’s all enjoy being N2N Champions……….Well done to everyone involved and THANKS to all the supporters, volunteers and club employees who made this possible.
None of these achievements would have been possible without huge amounts of hard work from all the players, coaches and back up staff here at Macclesfield RUFC. We mustn’t forget the supporters either, without their support on cold, wet afternoons, I doubt these results would have been achieved. On behalf of The Executive Committee, I’d like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to everyone involved in this seasons success. Well done and Congratulations to all!
AROUND THE PARK
As you will now know, the Blues beat Chester 40-12, the Lions won at Sedgley Park by 36-3, the 3rds lost at home to Wilmslow 2nds and the 4ths lost away at Bowden 3rds, 20-15
This weekend sees the Blues travel to Heywood Road to take on Sale, the 3rds also play Sale, this one at Priory Park, the 3rds travel to play Liverpool Collegiate 2nds and the 4ths are resting.

WILLIAM RONALD (RON) JAMES
I regret to inform you that , Ron James, a very long-standing member of Macclesfield RUFC, died peacefully at the age of 93 at Mahogany Nursing Home, Wigan on Tuesday 13th April. Ron never played for Macc. but was an integral part of ‘The Stags’ set up for many a season, and was a well known face at Priory Park every Saturday.
Ron`s funeral is to be at 12.15 pm on Tuesday, 3rd May at Broken Cross Methodist Church. Anyone who would like to attend would, of course, be most welcome. I’d like to pass on the club’s condolences to Gordon and the rest of Ron’s family at this sad time.
