Summer Update

Just a short newsletter so you know we`re still here!  Although the last season ended over 2 months ago and the new rugby season doesn’t start for another 8 weeks, there has been plenty going on behind the scenes at Priory Park.

Jason Walker and his company Search & More have developed a new, exciting and dynamic website for our club.  please show some patience as there may be one or two teething problems.

Macclesfield Blues had 2 players on the very successful England Counties Tour of Canada in early June with both Ryan Parkinson & Elliot Millar Mills proudly representing Macclesfield, together with new signing Nyle Davidson. England Counties won all 3 games, beating B.C. Bears 41-0, Wolf Pack 67-10 & Ontario 73-0.

The England Counties Under 20’s team were also on tour and travelled to Russia, with Charlie Venables proudly wearing the Red Rose of England.

Congratulations to all 3 players on a fantastic achievement!

Well, not strictly speaking, but 5 members of the Blues were representing Cheshire in the County Championship and reached the final where they put up a brave performance against a very strong Cornish team.  Congratulations to Dave Marwick (Cheshire Captain), Paul Melia, Elliott Millar Mills, Charlie Venables and Ryan Parkinson representing the County at Twickenham.

A very proud ‘Mazzer’
Cheshire at HQ

Welcome to all our new players and I hope you enjoy your time at Priory Park, and have a long and successful career with The Blues.

We have sadly lost the services of the following players, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for their time and commitment at Macclesfield and I’m sure you will join me in wishing them every success with their new clubs, and guys, if you’re reading this, remember, you`ll always welcomed back at Priory Park.

  • Matt King – Sedgley Park

It is with sadness that I have to announce the passing of Ken Miller, long time rub man for Macc, and who was responsible for getting literally hundreds of players, back on the pitch.  Ken was a real gentleman and a great listener, who served the club for over 25 years as a volunteer physio.  I’d like to pass on the club`s sincere condolences to Ken’s family at this sad time.

Blues manager Howard Hughes, together with Marshall Gadd & Sam Moss, have transformed the redundant shower room in the 1st VX changing room, into a Coaches office.  Thanks to the guys doing the work themselves, together the donation of some office furniture from Claphams Landscapes, this has made use of an unused area at no cost to the club.

Now that just about everything is in place, the Planning Application for the redevelopment of Priory Park will be submitted by Jones Homes on August 15th, and I understand a decision will be made by December 19th.  Despite exhaustive efforts to locate the clubhouse at the side of the pitch, this has proved financially unviable due to lack of space at the side of the pitch, (access is required for emergency services) therefore, the plans are being submitted with the clubhouse behind the posts.  We will shortly need all the written support we can muster showing your support for the development, particularly as to how it will benefit the community, so please can I ask you to start thinking about putting together an email or letter of support?  Please ask family, friends, neighbours etc to also lend their support to the application.  Details of how to help later.

Can you spare a couple of hours and hands on Sunday 24th July between 10AM and 2PM?  CALL TO ARMS and hands, feet etc.

The club needs a bit of a tidy and we’re rallying the troops to come down and do some Litter picking, polishing, painting, cleaning, clearing out etc.  Many hands make light work, so the more the merrier!  It’s our club.

In return for your time:

  • Kids get a burger / hotdog and chips and a drink (on us)
  • Parents – the bar will be open (after work!!!!)
  • BBQ will be available for extras (in the blazing sunshine which will be borrowed from the EU).
  • Hungarian Grand Prix on TV in the bar

Seriously though, please lend your lads to help keep the place ship shape, and ready for the next season in National 1, and all our M&J games!!!!

Please e-mail Jonathan ( – with your names – parent(s) and kid(s) and age group.

Whilst we’re talking about volunteers, (which is what keeps the club going!), we really do need your help, whether it be on the gate on match days, joining the merry band of groundsmen for a couple of mornings , assisting with various tasks on match days – the list is endless.

If you would like to help YOUR club, please contact Jonathan 01625 827899 or to offer your assistance.  ALL OFFERS OF HELP GRATEFULLY RECEIVED!!
