Blues 12 – 28 Ampthill

Macclesfields winless run continued to four games after losing 12-28 at home to Ampthill..

The game started as a midfield battle for the first 10 minutes until the visitors were able to establish their driving maul. After string of penalties, Ampthill used the free ball to score under the posts after a smart grubber from Fly Half Jones. They then added a second score on the 21st minute when scrum half Barrett picked and went. A third try was added two minutes later when Earl crossed after a kick and chase. Ampthill then continued the pressure until the 33rd minute when Macc displayed some lightning feet and hands in the backline to allow Morton to score on the break. Making the score 21-5 to the visitors.

The second half started with fierce pressure from Ampthill, however the Macc defence was determined and was able to hold out the visitors. This was until the Macc defence was torn to shreds by scrum half Barrett, who offloaded to winger Baker who scored in the corner in the 60th minute, wrapping up the bonus point for Ampthill. The next significant event was in the 70th minute when Reeder was binned for not retreating 10 from a Macc penalty. This meant that the visitors would finish the game with 14 men. Skipper Molitika was also sin binned in the last minute for a high tackle when Macc seemed certain to score. He was then joined by Flanker Earl after a deliberate knock on. Macc were able to score from the following scrum, Ryan Parkinson continuing his fine try scoring form.

Handrè Pollard is excited. Leicester Tigers are excited. We're excited. 🇿🇦 The World Cup-winning fly-half will move to Welford Road ahead of the 2022/23 season. Bigger offers were on the table, but the Springbok was set on the Premiership leaders. #GallagherPrem
