Ladies Day Charity Lunch at Macclesfield RUFC
Dr Michael Crotch-Harvey, Consultant Radiologist at Macclesfield Breast unit, receives a cheque for £5,500 and a framed Macclesfield rugby shirt from Frances Mair and Bev Roberts.
Over 200 people attended the Macclesfield Rugby Club annual ladies lunch held in the marquee at the end of April. The event coincided with the final home game of the season for the 1st team against Esher RUFC. The players ran out in specially commissioned “pink” shirts which were auctioned off after the game.
The event raised a total of a £5,500 for the Macclesfield Breast Screening unit.
The money raised will be used to purchase a Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) machine for the Breast Unit. DBT is an adaptation of the existing x-ray mammography machines which converts it into a type of CT scanner. This will be of benefit to all age groups but particularly younger women and judging by the feedback from other units who already have this equipment, it should provide a major improvement to breast cancer diagnosis and will certainly save lives. East Cheshire NHS Trust have allocated the additional funds necessary and the equipment will be installed in the near future.
As well as the cheque for £5,500 a framed shirt was presented by the club and will take pride of place in the Breast Unit reception area.
A big thank you to Sarah Davies and Bev Roberts who organised the lunch, Frances Mair who donated the players shirt and to Phil Hunter from Frame Art.
On a rare sunny day in July, 7500 families turned out for a fantastic time at the rugby club. Revellers enjoyed music from 55 acts, craft stalls, donkey rides, strongman competitions, zorbing, fine food and much, much more!
Such was the success of the event, that Maccfest 2018 has already been booked. Next time it will be over two days and it will be huge! Do not book any holidays over 21st July 2018.
