Rugby Notes from ‘Clubman’
A good Saturday for Macclesfield Rugby Club with all four sides recording emphatic victories in their various leagues and not so good for the England team who came second best against a fired up and confident Scotland up in Murrayfield to throw the Six Nations wide open with just a couple of games left and what about that Scot with a Welsh name who scorched in for an excellent brace of tries………..ah well just a little matter of March 10 in Paris and Ireland at HQ a week later to finish it off with Ireland currently in the hot seat unbeaten in three.
Unfortunately we are victims of the weather once again. The Beast from the East has put paid to any rugby at Priory Park this weekend.
All matches are postponed
Five from Five
It’s been a long time since we had a clean sweep over a weekend. Congratulations go out to all players from the Blues, the Lions, the 3rd team, the 4th team and the Colts. We can’t expect to win every game of course but, it feels like we have turned a corner.
Blues 31 v Sheffield 15
Preston GH 19 v Lions 42
Wilmslow 26 v 3rd Team 28
4th Team 42 v Northwich 12
Colts 17 v St Helens 12
Junior Colts Cup Match
The U17s take on Altrincham Kersal in the Quarter Final of the cup on 8th March. This is an away match but it is worth the short trip to watch the future of Macclesfield RUFC take to the field.
Mini & Junior Tours
You may or may not be aware the U13’s, U10’s & U8’s are touring in May.
They have managed to get a deal with oddballs (charity for testicular cancer who specialise in rugby wear) to get tour kits and bobble hats for all the children going on the tour. We currently have two very generous sponsors already and need one more to secure the deal.
The cost is £850 for your company logo to be printed on the shirts and you would of course get a shirt 🙂
If anyone is willing or knows someone who might be, please get in touch for more details
Haydn Keogh (U13’s player/kit organiser)
The deadline for the raffle has now been extended until the 16th March. Please get your money and stubs back to the office as soon as you can. If you cannot find your tickets, there are plenty at the club.
The 17th March is going to be a big day at Priory Park! It is St Patrick’s Day and in addition to all the normal shenanigans, the Blues take on Luctonians and the 4th team entertain Lymm.
We are showing all three 6 Nations matches
Italy v Scotland 12.30
England v Ireland 14.45
Wales v France 17.00
There will be a formal lunch before the Blues v Luctonians match with an Irish theme.
All this for only £12!
Plus your normal entry fee.
Leprechaun outfits will be encouraged
