Rugby Notes from ‘Clubman’

Overall it was not a good weekend for Macclesfield Rugby with the Senior Squad going down at Priory Park to a Chester side that came back from a half time deficit to record victory by 24-10 to leave the home side languishing at the wrong end of National Two North – played and lost 2 games -so hopefully we can get on track this weekend when we make the trip up to the Lancashire coast and the Fylde club who in their game at the weekend lost to local rivals Preston Grasshoppers in the ‘Lancashire Derby’ at Lightfoot Green by 18-15 in a tight encounter. Details and directions later in this column.  Disappointing for ‘Clubman’ who had to leave at the interval for an MRI check up on a knackered knee when Macc were ahead 10-7 only to return to learn the result had gone against us. The post match beer was scant consolation!!

Core Values Information Evening – 13th September 2018

Around 20 volunteers, coaches and young players attended the Core Values evening on Thursday evening to take part in an informative and interesting talk / presentation given by Cheshire RFU.

Core Values lie at the very heart of our game, and by extension MUST be at the very heart of everything the club does.  This starts in the Mini and Junior section, and results in great senior teams as our young players come through.

Did you know, for example that when asked “why do you play Rugby” only 13% of kids said “To be competitive”, but 44% said “to be part of a team” followed by 28% for “enjoyment”.  Makes you think! (RFU 2017, survey size 7000 kids)

The club will be developing further some ideas from the evening and producing material to help all coaches and volunteers ensure Macclesfield is the leading club in Cheshire when it comes to living, breathing and embracing the Core Values.

Macclesfield 2nd XV v Sedgley Park 2nd XV

The match against Sedgley Park is always a cracking game – not to be missed. Please note the early kick off at 2.15pm on the main pitch.

Deep Fat Fryer

A new – all singing, all dancing, deep fat fryer was fitted this week. Much less of a wait now for your chicken nuggets and chips!

Many thanks to Jeremy Bostock and Jason Walker for your donations towards the cost, please jump to the front of the queue.

Main Pitch

This is absolutely remarkable when you consider the state it was in only 3 weeks ago.

Thanks go to all those that helped to shift 40 tonnes of sand, the chaps that nipped out to the club
during the heat wave to move the sprinklers and of course a huge thanks to the intrepid groundsmen.

Membership Payments

Apologies for the delay with the membership section of the website, we are slowly moving to a
different payment facilitator and it has taken some time to set it all up. It is now live with a fairly
basic functionality – it will allow you pay for your membership for most categories of member.

If you want to pay monthly, please cancel your standing order and follow the instructions on the
membership page of the website https://www.macclesfieldrufc.co.uk/. If you choose to pay the full
amount from your account, you can do. Just open up the membership page on the website and
choose the category that you fall into. It is very simple to use so you should not have any problems,
but if you do, please drop Jonathan a line.

If you would rather pay using cash or cheque, please just come and see Jonathan in the office as you
normally would. Also come and see me if you are a LM of LVP and you just want to buy a season
ticket. If you are a LM of LVP and want to pay for membership/donation, please use the website.
Attached are this season’s membership costings, you will notice that it has increased by £10 in most
cases. This season your membership will include £10 worth of RFU raffle tickets, these will be
available from the end of the year. More tickets will be available to purchase.

Sorry for any confusion, it will be a lot easier in the future.

The Gate Gang
