Sale Sharks Community Launch October Half Term 2018 Rugby Camp at Macclesfield RUFC

Sale Sharks Community Trust are delighted to announce details of a two-day rugby development camp at Macclesfield RUFC in the October Half Term of 2018.

Darren Lamon, Rugby Development Manager who manages the rugby camps said: “2018 so far has been a fantastic year for Sharks Community Trust Rugby Camps and its award-winning coaches. Players from across the North West and beyond have been attending our camps for the first time and many more returning, developing their rugby skills, having fun, meeting Sale Sharks players and having the opportunity create new friendships. A personal highlight of the department has been the amount of money given back to the clubs who have hosted Sale Sharks, each club for reaching 30 – 35 camp attendees receives 10% of the total revenue generated, hearing stories on how this money has supported grassroots rugby, either through new equipment, contributing to mini & junior coaches continuous personal develop (CPD), new kits, funding for tours or new players memberships has been inspiring”.

“Our October Half Term Rugby Camps have always been very popular and we are looking forward to welcoming more players on our camp at Macclesfield Park RUFC, for what will be a great couple of days rugby.”

New for 2018 – 19 season our Rugby Camps and Sale Sharks Community team aim to meet the development needs of players aged 6 – 12 (U7 – U12) and are specifically designed around the Sale Sharks Academy Player Development Model (Sharks DNA) and the RFU Age Grade Rugby Codes of Practise. These codes support the research that age grade players should have a break from specific rugby activities between the end of the season in May and the start of the new season in September.

Sale Sharks Academy staff believe there are 4 aspects required for players to play the future game:

Defensive Warriors: Players who regularly demonstrate the ability to repeatedly make effective decisions in defence which will disrupt the opposition. These players show the bravery to be enthusiastic tacklers, to get off the floor quickly and to contest possession.

Creative Attackers: Players who regularly demonstrate the ability to combine technical skill and tactical decision making to create attacking opportunities during game play. These players show the coordination to run, kick, pass effectively whilst at speed.

Relentless Athletes: The potential for physical capacity of a fast, robust player to repeatedly perform high-intensity efforts and recover quickly. These players demonstrate the ability to play the future game in their capacity for work and some will have the physical attributes required to play the current modern game.

Best Teammates: Players with the ability to self-organise, take responsibility, and build relationships to perform effectively as part of a team. These players are well prepared for training sessions and accept others and develop friendships. They show a point of difference in their attitude.

Sale Sharks Development Camps offer young players the opportunity to develop alongside our RFU qualified coaches and a selection of first team players who provide the perfect balance of insight and intensity in a fun environment.

Each camp runs every day from 9:30am – 3:00pm and includes a range of rugby skills, activities and games for understanding designed around our coaching philosophy:

“Promote the development of every skill for every player and the future player”

Our rugby development camps will have a focus on:

  • Core Skill Development: – Running, Evasion, Handling, Kicking, Tackling & Rucking
  • Principles of Play: – Contest Possession, Go Forward, Support, Continuity, Pressure, Score
  • Games Sense: – Constraint Led Coaching Approach Through Adaptive Games and Skill Zones
  • Athleticism: – Strength, Flexibility, Agility, Speed & Stamina
