We regret to announce the passing of George Lewis

It is with great sadness that the club must announce the recent passing of George Lewis.  We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to George, who way back in the 1970/71 season, had the foresight to start `Mini Rugby` at Macclesfield RUFC, ably assisted by wife Mary and young daughters Rhian & Bethan, whilst sons Gwynne & Rhys played rugby.

Mary & the girls ran a tuck shop selling penny chews to raise funds and the kids paid 10p to attend the training sessions on a Sunday morning.  Although George lived in Bristol for the past 30 years, his heart was always with Macclesfield Rugby Club and the Mini Rugby section he started all those years ago.

Daughter Rhian has sent the following message to all his old friends at Macclesfield Rugby Club

If anyone who knew my dad (or mum) would like to come along and join us at our Life Celebration Party it is on Saturday 16th November from 12 noon to 5.30pm at Bristol Zoo Pavilion. Dad loved the zoo as he spent a lot of time there with his grandchildren and latterly great-grandchildren.

If you’d like to come along, please email me rhian4always@yahoo.co.uk so that we can anticipate numbers for the venue.

Many thanks,

Rhian x
