The Junior Colts played host to Ellesmere Port this weekend at Priory Park. Both teams observed a minutes silence before the kick off to remember those that gave their lives so bravely to enable us to enjoy days like these.
The Blues were sporting new training tops, hoodies and polo shirts. These were provided by our very generous sponsors; Marchington Stone, Emery Planning, Richardson Law, Bora Construction and Evoke-Creative.
We knew Ellesmere would play the game through their big well organised pack and they did not disappoint. Although the Blues took an early lead through a penalty kick, it was Ellesmere who scored the first try. If we could get the ball off them, we knew we had the fire power out wide to score. We took the limited opportunities and scored two well worked tries down the right wing.
Ellesmere were not for giving up and came back hard after the break, scoring a couple of well worked tries themselves despite some resolute defence from the Blues. The game finished off as it started with a penalty kick crossing the bar resulting in the final play of the game. Both teams had given their all in a very physical and entertaining contest. The game was played in good spirits by both sides and we wish Ellesmere Port all the best in the Bowl semi-finals. Wishes for speedy recovery are sent to Ellis Featherstone from Ellesmere, who left the pitch early with an injured shoulder.
The Colts are back to league action next week, away to Stockport in the local derby.
