macc rugby tour nov 2015

MRUFC Social Tour

The tour organiser, burley 4th team prop forward, Jason Walker, has informed Clubman that arrangements are well advanced for next year’s end of season tour. The destination is Palma, Majorca and will depart April 25th. It came as a surprise that rugby is played on the island, because Spain isn’t recognised as a country where the game flourishes, but there are several teams established by ex-pats out there.

After the success of last year’s tour, all 48 places had been booked even before the destination had been announced, and Jason has found it necessary to have waiting list.  1st XV Second Row, Frankie Barker, is intending staying in Macclesfield until the Saturday, in case he’s needed for a possible first team league play-off encounter and then flying out to join the tour on Saturday evening under his own steam.

These tours are huge fun and many of the tourists have a role to fill, from Judge of Misdemeanours, Chief Snitch, Kitty Sockmiester, (so called because the money is kept in a rugby sock) right through to Choirmaster, Official Photographer, Pub Approver etc.
