Emergency Appeal & Update from the Chairman

Donations to the fund have hit the £30,000 target!

“A huge thanks to everyone who responded to the call for help!”

The fund closed after the Easter Bank Holiday having reached £30,335.The response to the call for help, only three weeks previously, has been fantastic, and a huge thank you must go to the 96 individuals who contributed to the fund either through a one off donation or by buying a Blue Tile which will be placed in the entrance to The Rugby Club; setting up a direct debit over ten months or by donating the value of tickets purchased for functions and events that have had to be cancelled or postponed. The bar stock sale we had very early on had an amazing response and converted over £5,000 of stock to cash. If anyone is still interested in making a donation please contact Andy Appleyard or Pete White.

It would be remiss of me and the executive team not to pay tribute to those colleagues who have been furloughed during the crisis and also to those who have lost opportunities to earn money as a result of the lockdown. For them and many others this is a very challenging time and we thank them for their patience and fortitude as we look forward to some sort of transition back to: ‘business as usual’.

In addition, I would like to thank all those individuals and businesses that continue to sponsor Macc Rugby Club. Sponsorship is critical to our ability to maintain and develop the Club for its players across all age groups and for all the non-playing members, families, friends, supporters and the wider community.

Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Club is a totally inclusive organisation which gives young people a pathway to develop their skills and ability throughout their journey from Mini to Junior and Youth rugby, and eventually into the senior game where the National Stage beckons to showcase their skills. Our Sponsors support us hugely in making this happen.

Please can I ask that, wherever possible, members use the products, skills and services provided by the Club’s sponsors, particularly at this difficult time in order to support them as they have supported us.

The money raised and the other financial support we have secured has ensured that the Club can continue to meet its liabilities without taking on debt that it cannot afford.

The Macclesfield Rugby Club Family has secured its own future and we must look forward to it with confidence and optimism.

We are planning for the new season to start in September as usual and hope to begin other club activities at the earliest opportunity. We are already planning for the commencement of the Club’s commercial activities so that we are in the best position possible as the lockdown lifts.

Keep an eye on the website and on the social media platforms for further information and activities.

Thank you all, once again, and I look forward to the time when we can all meet back at the club to be with friends, watch rugby, drink beer and talk nonsense.

Stephen Branch
