Now is the time to try rugby.
Boys, girls, men, women, 5 years to 70+ years, there’s never been a better time to return to rugby or come and try this great sport for the first time.
The RFU has moved to the third stage on their 6-stage plan for a return to community rugby. This new game format, ‘Ready4Rugby’, is an adaption of Touch Rugby, with 10 players per team. As there are no scrums, mauls, rucks and tackling, contact is minimised but lots of other skill-sets like: passing, kicking (below head height), evasion and support and defence enable a competitive game to be played. Rolling substitutes are allowed and periods of play are a maximum of 15 minutes; full details are available @ englandrugby.com.
New players wanting to try Rugby are more than welcome, and this format allows new players to develop experience and build confidence before the more physical-contact elements are re-introduced in the weeks to come. Just turn up at 7.00pm on a Thursday and introduce yourself. For Mini and Juniors the new season starts in September, with the first full sessions on Sunday 6th. For more information or to get involved give Phil Mason (Mini and Junior Chairman) a call on 07738 727638 or firstname.lastname@example.org
The Rugby Club is currently in the first stages of planning a tournament at Priory Park, in early September, to involve as many team squads as possible; more details to follow.
