16 people set off from the Leathers Smithy last week with the daunting task of climbing Shuttlingsloe, Shinning Tor and Teggs Nose; the 14+ mile up-hill-down-dale hike would have been small-beer back in the day, but this bunch of Vets (c.60-71years) were all carrying injuries from days-a-yore.
They all blamed Clive Kirkham for coming up with the idea, to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease charity, Funding Neuro, and he has promised that he won’t ask us again to put our bodies on the line.
Dubbed the Rick Usher 3 Peaks Challenge the target was £5,000, which we just exceeded on the day and are now approaching £7,000.
The toughest parts of the walk were the start, up Shuttlingsloe, and coming down Teggs Nose at the end, when our rugby knees were screaming! As planned four turned back after the first summit, with one other dropping out at the Cat & Fiddle, otherwise the boys got back in one piece for light refreshments back at the Leathers.
A big thank you for all that have supported the challenge, and a special thanks to Harry Sexton who provided us with much needed refreshments at the Cat & Fiddle.
Rick was very grateful for our support, as was the Funding Neuro charity; if you would like to contribute the fundraising page is still open: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/David-Wilkinson68
