It’s all kicking off, for a full-on day of fun and games at Priory Park for the first home game of the season, on Saturday. The Sin Bin and Spiral Bars will be open from 1.00 pm, plus a pre-match lunch in the Lounge (please book online).

It’s all free for the kids from 1.30 pm: Tug-of-War demonstrations – Macclesfield Fire Station, with Fire Engine! – Fantastic Children’s Assault Course – Plus a fabulous five-part inflatable Bouncy Castle. Food is available all-day, outside, at the Priory Café.

Macclesfield v Northwich

The game kicks-off at 3.00pm, with both teams still smarting, after first round losses last week. Northwich started well at home to Lymm but faltered in the second half not being able to cope with Lymm’s extra pace. For the Macclesfield players it was a rude-awakening! Newly promoted Manchester will have spent the whole of the close-season building up to the re-match; it had been 26 years! The bottom-line was that they delivered, and Macclesfield didn’t respond to the challenge when it came.

The boys will have had an ear-bashing, after the game, and again on Tuesday; but the coaching team are pleased with the way that they have all responded. Injuries are still a problem; Harry Blackwell is out for another week after his head injury and after injuring his ankle, Junior Gelsthorpe will be out for 8 weeks, we still await the return of Will Davies, Josh Degroot, Jordon Simpson, Tom Brand and Aaron Wilman. Coming back into selection will be Phil Laing and Sam Broster, with a likely debut from the 2s.

Northwich had a torrid time last season, losing a lot of players during Covid after promotion; but they battled through it. This summer they have been able to bolster the squad, and will expect to be much more competitive – which I am sure they will be. The ground is in perfect condition, expect a fast flowing game, I have my “Whaa-Hoo” machine and music at the ready; let’s have a great game of rugby and no injuries.
