Kendal Preview

By David Wilkinson

No one seems to be sure if these two clubs have previously competed; historically Kendal played to a higher standard, until around 2005 when they probably passed each other on the escalator of promotion and relegation. There is not a lot to split the two teams at the moment, although Macclesfield have the scalp of the league leaders hanging from their belt and some momentum with three wins in a row.

Head Coach, Ben Wade, had no illusions about the challenge facing them: “You have to respect every team that you face up against – they have a big pack that we will need to deal with, the boys have been looking closely at Matt’s videos, and we’ve been working on the things that didn’t go quite to plan last week against Blackburn, like the lineout. We are in a position now where we can rest some players if we need to and give players that have been performing very well for the 2s to come into the selection mix”.

With the addition of a few on-loan players coming into the squad, and relatively few injuries, the Coaches have a much bigger number of players to select from. The eight in the pack selected to start, reflects the view that the Kendal pack should be fully respected. Elliot Alston starts in the Back Row and Sam Broster and Tom Jennings move up from the second team. Jennings is in a rich vein of form, recently being selected for the Police England squad.

Get their early to bag a place in the Stand, which will be busy, whith the President’s Lunch guests. The squad for Saturday is: 1. Dan Percival, 2. Brendan Berry, 3. James Cross, 4. Harry Harding, 5. Rhys Davies, 6. Elliot Alston, 7. Seb Pemberton, 8. James Oliver, 9. Danny Martin, 10. Charlie Attis, 11. Sam Broster, 12. Terence Babarinsa, 13. Harry Oliver, 14. Lloyd Smith Coates, 15. Tom Jennings; 16. Louis Singleton, 17. Marcus Pyle, 18. Phil Laing.

Only one result to 'round up' today, but it's a crucial 5 points for the 1st XV, who are now top of the table after Rossendale lost over at Stockport. Here Tommy Taylor (Defence Coach) gives his views on the match. The lads now head into a well-deserved break, and face Blackburn up at Ramsgreave Drive in a fortnight. Next weekend it’s all the Guinness Men's Six Nations action on the screens down at Priory Park. 🍻 🏉 tinyurl.com/MRUTV ... See MoreSee Less
