Now the biggest rugby story of the week isn’t Steve Borthwick becoming the new England coach, its about a near miss……… this could (& should have been our very own Paul Underpants) I will take you back to 1994, a wet Saturday afternoon at Preston Grasshoppers. Preston 3rd vs Buxton 1st team. Buxton had a man mountain of man in the second row, he was agile, he could jump, he was aggressive, he had great hands, superb tacker and also Paul Unders on the other side of the scrum. Anyway in the row for the Hoppers was S Borthwick, now we don’t know if it was the weather or the heavy pitch but Buxton got smashed, Unders was below par and Borthwick was magnificent and promptly left to play at Bath. Poor old Unders headed for Macc 3rd team, as Paul says “with a bit of luck, some skill, a bit of physical ability and some athletic ability it could have been me” To me the biggest story of the week, we nearly had an England Coach in our ranks……..
