Northwich Preview

By David Wilkinson

Saturday sees the 1st team start the second half of the season with their return encounter against Northwich. The previous contest this season caught Macclesfield napping. Still reeling from the loss to Manchester on the opening day of the season they gave Northwich a lead that they just couldn’t claw back. Whilst Macc were strong in the scrum that day, the lineout was a disaster; which gave Northwich plenty of ammunition to attack with, besides a couple of gift tries. The lineout is no longer an issue, and the boys will not want to be giving away any early Christmas presents. The pack will be looking to make their presence felt, and if they do have dominance at scrum time, they will be hoping that sees some rewards this week.

Northwich sit just below Macclesfield in the league now, with serious expectations of doing the double over their visitors. Head Coach, Ben Wade, is well aware of the threat: “We are expecting a very competitive game, but it will be a test that we are all looking forward to. Tom Burdan, who played very well at Wirral starts again, with Louis Singleton replacing Charlie Attis who is sick, and Sam Broster at 12 for Terence Babarinsa who took a knock to the head last week”.

Sam Brown moves to 15 with Tom Jennings swapping to the left wing and young Jako joining the bench. The pack is packed with power and pace and will be keen to snuff out Northwich’s second phase play that was so damaging at Priory Park.

Kick-off will be at 2.15 pm, please come and give your support at Northwich, it means a lot to the boys, and gives them a massive lift, as their 16th man. The team is: 1. Dan Percival, 2. Brendan Berry, 3. Tom Burden, 4. Harry Harding, 5. Rhys Davies, 6. Seb Pemberton, 7. Jordon Simpson, 8. James Oliver, 9. Danny Martin, 10. Louis Singleton, 11. Tom Jennings, 12. Sam Broster, 13. Harry Oliver, 14. Lloyd Smith-Coates, 15. Sam Brown; 16. James Cross, 17. Elliot Alston, 18. Alex Jakoboski.

Only one result to 'round up' today, but it's a crucial 5 points for the 1st XV, who are now top of the table after Rossendale lost over at Stockport. Here Tommy Taylor (Defence Coach) gives his views on the match. The lads now head into a well-deserved break, and face Blackburn up at Ramsgreave Drive in a fortnight. Next weekend it’s all the Guinness Men's Six Nations action on the screens down at Priory Park. 🍻 🏉 tinyurl.com/MRUTV ... See MoreSee Less
