Chairman’s Announcement

After five years on the executive team with four of those as Chairman, I have taken the decision not to stand again at the next AGM in May this year. The process for electing The Chairperson is set out in the rules of the Club and requires anyone interested to be a full member of the Rugby Club with voting rights. All nominations must be proposed and seconded by full members also with voting rights. The notice requirement is set out in the rules of The Club which are available from the website or through the Club Secretary, Bob Cooke and nominations will be voted on at the AGM.

In line with our One Club philosophy the executive team has agreed to advertise the role with plenty of notice and encourage applications early in order that a full and fair recruitment process can be followed at the end of which the executive team will propose and second their preferred choice of Chairperson at the AGM. The process gives The Club the opportunity to appoint the best person for the job. The official advert for the role, with a link to the full job description, is available on the website.

Chairman Job Description and Advert

The role of Chairperson at Macclesfield Rugby Club is a huge privilege and I have found it to be enjoyable and incredibly rewarding in many ways. Of course, there is the more serious side in terms of giving direction across the player pathway and setting the Club’s ambition on the field of play and also in delivering a commercially viable proposition that generates the funds to sustain the Club, but most of all it is about the culture; creating an environment that gives people compelling reasons to be part of Macclesfield Rugby Club over all the other choices they may have in sport and socially. We have a wonderful community at The Club that we should be very proud of and that should never be taken for granted. The biggest reward for me every week is to see so many people enjoying themselves both on the pitch and socially and feeling that we are all engaged as one big family.

I can’t thank everyone enough for your support over the last four years and for the pleasure it has given me to be your chairman. I look forward to many more years continuing to enjoy everything that our great club has to offer.

On a separate note, we are introducing two new volunteer roles on the executive team, Director of Rugby and Commercial Director. These are significant and important roles that will contribute significantly to the strategic direction of the rugby club. Adverts and job descriptions for these two roles will be available on the website soon.
