Lymm Preview

By David Wilkinson

The visit to Crouchley Lane on Saturday is an intriguing one, Lymm sit top of the table with 79 points, just 3 points ahead of Blackburn, the Lancastrians have a game in hand, and probably an easier run-in. Both teams will be desperate to try their hand in National 2, but from what I have seen Lymm are better equipped, and the Blackburn squad, by their own admission, is getting a bit long in the tooth, that said Blackburn are definitely in the box-seat. Lymm will have a strategy of 5 points per game being essential, with a hope that Blackburn does not achieve the same.

None of the above is likely to affect how Lymm go about the contest with the Macc lads, on Saturday, their game is built upon scoring more tries than the opposition, whatever happens, and they have the personnel and the pitch to do it. Macclesfield will want to dominate up front to starve Lymm of some of their possession, but we saw at Priory Park, earlier in the season, that Lymm now has a pack capable of competing with any team in this league. On their 3G pitch, they are unbeaten, they now how best to play on it, and always have an edge in the last 20 minutes, when the legs of the opposition players begin to tire on the artificial surface.

Wadey had this to say about Saturday’s challenge: “The boys need to play the full 80 minutes; we can’t afford to switch-off or give the ball away easily, we need to stay in the fight to give ourselves the best chance”. James Cross, Rhys Davies, Phil Laing and Charlie Attis all return to the team, with Brendan Berry moving back to Hooker and Tom Jennings retaining the 15 shirt in the absence of Sam Brown.

Kick-off is 3.00 pm for what should be a great contest, please make the short trip over if you can, the boys really appreciate our away support; the squad for Saturday is:

  1. Dan Percival, 2. Brendan Berry, 3. James Cross, 4. Harry Harding, 5. Rhys Davies, 6. Seb Pemberton, 7. Phil Laing, 8. James Oliver, 9. Danny Martin, 10. Charlie Attis, 11. Sam Adu, 12. Terence Babarinsa, 13. Harry Oliver (Captain), 14. Lloyd Smith-Coates, 15. Tom Jennings, 16. Carl Droy, 17. Louis Singleton, 18. Elliot Alston.
