Probably the last rugby to be played this season, by a Macc player, was Sam Brown in the final game for North of England U20 v South West U20; although there is another match planned on August 18th at Wilmslow, where a Macclesfield XV will take on a team from Looseheadz, the rugby mental health charity; more on this to follow, closer to the event.

Father’s day pitched the North team against the rugged men of the South West on Stafford’s RFU 4G surface, a definite bar-take-bonus for the Staffordshire Club. This would be the last game for the North having previously beaten London and the South at Broadstreet RFC in Coventry.

Sam Brown uses his strength to get inside his opposite number

Nick Brown reports back on the contest: “The conditions were perfect for this intense encounter. Both teams looked well balanced in big forward packs and fast back lines. The North scored first with some powerful drives by the pack eventually scoring under the posts; the South West hit back straight away with a similar play, but from a set piece. This was the story of the game, one side getting the upper hand then the other hitting back.

Solid in defence

Again Macclesfield RUFC’s “Sam Brown” proved his strength and worth, running in 2 important tries for the North with some exceptional team work. The match finished at 39-29 to the North which meant, for the 7th year the England North Team, won outright and stayed unbeaten; congratulations to the all the players and Coaches that were involved”.

Sam will have certainly made his mark with England North, scoring a brace of tries in both matches, which hopefully is a forerunner for more representative rugby, and a great season with Macc, when it all kicks-off again.
