2023 – 2024 Membership subscriptions now available

Membership subscriptions are available now for the new season. Go to the membership tab to purchase your subscription.

The prices in all categories of membership have been increased this year. The rugby club has not been immune from the “cost of living” crisis affecting us all in our home lives. The costs of running the club and providing all the services and benefits to members have increased significantly. Many of our suppliers have increased prices of nearly everything from power to beer. So much so that this financial year the club will make a loss. We have also decided to change the policy in relation to the member’s bar discount. From this season instead of a bar discount being available at all times when a member buys drinks at the bar, the discount will be available at specified “happy hours” only. These will be targeted principally at off-peak periods to attract or retain members to use the bar outside high activity times. The timings of these happy hours will be published in due course.

Although Priory Park Venue is proving a success and generating income through a variety of events and hirings and Rob Oliver, the Club’s Commercial Director is making excellent progress in developing additional revenue streams for the club through projects and sponsorship, it is the membership subscriptions that remain the lifeblood of the club. All I can ask is that all of you pay your subscriptions promptly as this helps the club cash flow a great deal. We have exciting plans for the future of the club and a financially strong and healthy club will make them easier to achieve for the benefit of our members and the community at large.

I can assure you that all the players this season, including the 1st XV team, will pay their subscriptions. Please do not be one of the few shameless people each season who believe that they can enjoy the excellent facilities of Macclesfield Rugby Club without paying their subscription. Please remember that all subscriptions may be paid in monthly instalments as well as in full.

We have some amendments and changes to the different categories of membership this year as follows:-

  • The layout of the membership options on the website has been simplified to help make it easier to find the membership option that you need, and are separated into distinct groups on the website; Social Memberships which include all adult non-playing memberships, Playing Memberships and Mini, Junior & Youth Memberships.
  • Instead of playing subscriptions consisting of two parts; membership and playing subscription, for simplicity, all the Adult Men and Ladies playing subscriptions are amalgamated into a single subscription.
  • The season ticket has been reduced in price to £45 to reflect the lower number of home league matches.
  • We have introduced a new category of membership, the “1874 Club” which is aimed at past players or those who may have lost touch with the club. 1874 membership will be by invitation only.
  • In an effort to encourage Mini & Youth parents to become members of the Club in their own right as well as through the usual family membership, we have introduced a new category of membership known as “Parent Social Membership” which is only available to parents of current registered M&Y players. Details of this membership can be found in the M&Y block of memberships.

All players in the senior club should remember to check or amend their entry on GMS when buying their subscription. In the Mini & Youth section, all players must register on GMS. The membership subscription process will prompt and guide you on how to do this.

As I write this the senior squad is already well into the first 4 week block of pre-season training. I am excited at our prospects for the new season, especially given the excellent way our 1st and 2nd XV’s finished last season. The Ladies also made great strides forward last season and we look forward to see them continue to grow. Our large and thriving Mini & Youth section again showed what a fantastic asset it is to the club, with yet more players preparing to make the transition to Senior rugby.

I look forward to seeing many of you over the summer, but If not, enjoy your summer and I look forward to seeing you once the new season begins.

Bob Cooke
Chairman
Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Club.
