Papa Johns Women’s Junior Cup

Round 1 – Sunday 1st October – 2.00pm KO

A first for the women’s section as they enter a first national cup competition on Sunday.

Cup journey begins for Macclesfield Women’s Rugby

Following in the footsteps of the First XV winners of last season’s Papa John’s Community Plate. The women’s team host Stoke RUFC in the first round of the Papa John’s Junior Cup on Sunday.  This is the first time the women have entered a cup competition of any kind, never mind a national competition and it is an important step in further developing the women’s game at Priory Lane.

Steph Knight v Rochdale

The team are full of confidence having convincingly won their opening game of the season against a physical Rochdale Team with Pip Wyer Scoring a hat trick. During pre-season the team have worked hard honing their skills and developing a rucking game that gets quick ball to an exciting set of backs. The backs are well marshalled by the half back pairing of Mel Bramly (Captain) and Mary Thorp whilst Katie McKree brings her athleticism and defensive skills at centre. In the forwards Mandy Rosser brings experience, hard running and subtle offloads and Tiegan Shaw, Julia Ashford and Hannah Paige are a tough tackling, ball carrying back row. The team currently compete in a regional “Inner Warrior” league but are aiming for promotion this season. The team would welcome a big crowd at Priory Lane on Sunday at 2.00pm to support them on what will hopefully be an exciting new journey.

Mary Thorpe v Rochdale

It would be fantastic to get as much support down to the club to get behind the Women’s team, so please come down.

Only one result to 'round up' today, but it's a crucial 5 points for the 1st XV, who are now top of the table after Rossendale lost over at Stockport. Here Tommy Taylor (Defence Coach) gives his views on the match. The lads now head into a well-deserved break, and face Blackburn up at Ramsgreave Drive in a fortnight. Next weekend it’s all the Guinness Men's Six Nations action on the screens down at Priory Park. 🍻 🏉 tinyurl.com/MRUTV ... See MoreSee Less
