RIP Jerry Howarth

It`s with a heavy heart I have to report the passing of Jerry Howarth last Friday.  Jerry had been a member of MRUFC since he played as a teenager at the London Road ground, and when his playing career ended, Jerry took on various committee positions, culminating in a period as Club Chairman in the mid 1990`s.  Jerry was instrumental in the move from Tytherington to Priory Park and was the driving force for the extensions to the clubhouse in the 1990`s, which included what is now the Spiral Lounge and the seated stand with extended changing rooms underneath.

Jerry was also a huge benefactor for the club, donating money for various projects, and it`s quite fitting that his final donation was the new posts on the 2nd team pitch, which were erected a couple of weeks before he passed away. In 2012 Jerry was deservedly made an Honourary Life Member of the club he served for so long.

When informing members of Jerry`s passing, the one phrase which keeps coming up is `What a lovely man`.  Jerry will be sorely missed by the club he loved and our sympathies go out to Judy, Richard, Kate and his grandchildren.  Details of Jerry`s funeral will be published on the website once arrangements have been made.
